I stopped using EJ42 strings because I didn't like the 26 on the third string. I recently decided to try them again and liked them. I looked at the package and it stated that the third string is 28 although it still has a green anchor ball. I called the company and the man I talked to said it had been a 28 as long as he had been there (5 years). He could not explain why their own website as well as Elderly and Beards say it is a 26. I have no means of measuring it so has anyone ever measured one?? If so what is it?? Thanks in advance! skeeter

I chatted with Peter D'Addario and can confirm that the 3rd has been a .028 for about 3 years now. Peter told me that D'Addario's website had the correct info but they had years worth of old (incorrect) packaging that they continued to use until the supply was recently exhausted.
And there you have it. May the fun begin.

I used to always use the D'darrio EJ42's however, my G string would wear out really quick.
I recently switched to the Beard Special 29's, AND LOVE THEM!!! janetdavismusic.com/dobrost.html

Great tone, and the the G string is a 29. Lasts much longer. Very happy with the change!

AH HA! That's why the windings haven't been going south on me the past few years. I figured they changed the formula or something. Works for me.

I have to ask since we are on the subject. Any pro's or con's on the Black Diamond strings? I never hear them mentioned. Mike

Well, thanks for the advice. They are kind of pricey too. I think I may try the Beard 29's and the D'darrio EJ-42's and see which I like better. I see both of them have good things said about them. I appreciate the input guys. Mike

I just picked up a box of the EJ42's and they now say that the 3rd is an .028.

I agree with Troy, these are great strings. If you want to go a little lighter, the Special 28's are just as fine and they last just as well. Both highly recommended.
