Finding a good variety of reso's is difficult here (Brisbane, Australia). There's not much to choose from here - I've tried a few cheaper brands (not much good) and some Nationals (fantastic but too expensive for me).

From what I've read a Republic could be a good choice for me, and they have a distributor here - I've got my eye on a Republic Brass Duolian, but there is also a Steel one for sale. These are listed in another state, so I won't have a chance to try them out. I'm uncertain of the brass/steel differences. I was hoping someone might be able to explain the difference in sound between brass and steel.

Oh, and I'm talking roundnecks, not squarenecks

Thanks.

The National Reso-Phonic web site has video and sound samples of brass and steel equivalent models for your comparison. I presume they would be very close to the Republic version.
