Just got back from Branson Mo., last night and I brought home a new toy. Got it at Cedar Creek Dulcimer Company. It's kind of a chromatic strumstick, but it's a reso that you can play lap style, OR, adjust the strings into the other slots in-order to lower them so you can fingerpick it. It's tuned DGBD, so slide or banjo works very well. It does have a banjo tone to it, but the slides sound great too. This should be a sweet addition to the stable of instruments I attempt to play. It's called a Hobro..lol.... The "jack of all trades and master of none" rides again!

A chromatic strumstick, that's a new one.

Preston, and what's really cool is that it's a resonator. Sounds like a reso, except more quiet. Over the last few days I think it's making me more accurate on fingerpicking, because the neck is narrower (only 4 strings) and I can't let my right hand wander too far. Anyway, I still have three weeks left of vacation (school bus driver) and I'm having a blast with all these instruments. Just wish I knew how to play them.

You can know how to do a lot a stuff and still not know anything... the fact your having a blast, now that's meat in the root cellar. It does sound like a purdy neat set up, lighter im sure, and as far as im concerned you can never have enough finger pickin exercises, well least wise till tendinitis sets in anyhow. Gonna take a look at it if i can find it on the web somewhere. Cheers! EDIT I did find some... songofthewood.com/strumsticks.htm

That is similar to the Martin Backpacker. I have thought many times of getting one on e-bay, but I would want to adapt it to use with a bar and I don't know that it can be done.
