It didn't sell for $699 as a buy-it-now a few weeks ago - be interesting to see if auction fever kicks in and boosts the price further.

Never heard of him. Walnut Wessie hmmmmmmm kind of has a ring to it. Would be curious to hear it. I would say it should be better than an Asian import. I see he started bidding at $1 but he had a reserve on it. Wonder what it was.

All that reserve stuff drives me crazy!! Wish they would just put down their bottom line price and let it go from there.

Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Flea-bay is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, just the only game in town. They do know how to charge you though.

Shouldn't drive you crazy - it's a time-honored technique from the beginning of auctioneering. Think of it as the seller buying insurance that he won't have to sell for less than he wants. Reserve's fine in certain situations. This guy couldn't catch a bid at $699, but by starting it low with a reserve that he could live with, he's gotten enough interest to propel the price 10% over his original buy-it-now. In contrast, the quilted mahogany Harlow I've listed at my "bottom line price" is sitting without a bid.

That's why you get the BIG BUCKS Badger. Never sold anything with a reserve. Never thought of it in that way. Makes sense.

Badger, you have a quilted Harlow? Sweet!
badger - Posted - 08/16/2010: 06:14:47
Sweet indeed. But I've got three Harlows, and this one mostly sits.
I sell with a reserve all the time - maybe that's where the big bucks went...

Hey Badger, I don't have any money but it can "sit" at my house. I'm a good Resositter.
