Hi guys, this is getting a little easier, I guess my brain is getting used to the notes not being where they've been in the past,I've been playing in the Spanish/Blues guys position,I can't do the lap thing yet it feels weird, and experimenting with Open G on some of the songs I am familiar with (George Thorogood,Z.Z. Top,Clapton,Rory Gallagher)athough not bluegrass at all,I'm finding the notes and the sounds that were difficult to find all these years of playing in standard tuning,I'm really enjoying this Dobro it's like learning all over again...oh yeah , I have'nt picked up my strats since I got this.....LOL

Glad your enjoying it, just remember when you get comfortable there are many different tunings that might work better for the type of songs you suggested by the looks some sort of E tuning would probably work.
good luck:)

Hi skeetercaster!

My tele is also standing in a corner since I got my new reso guitar..,

Nice to hear that you are exploring new tunings. One of the most common tunings for blues and rock is DGDGBD and there it's called open G. For the reso the most common tuning is GDBGDB, also called open G. This can be a little confusing, just want you to know.

Yes - the response above is exactly correct but do not try retuning a round-neck to gbdgbd. It puts a lot of stress on the neck. Many songs are open (pun intended) to a bit of rearrangement.

I have a Fender FR-50 and Its a roundneck and tuned to GBDGBD since day one....now 6 yrs old and necks as true as day1........ Maybe just lucky

I thought that the tuning GBDGBD was just called G tuning and DGDGBD was called open G or taro patch tuning,? Stach Phillips uses both playing hawiian music

GBDGBD: "Open G" for short, "G" shorter yet, and more specifically referred to as "High Bass Open G." After all, it is still an "open" tuning.
