Is it really important to notch a resonator saddle and if it is why?
I know this is a dumb question but I was just wondering since notching a regular acoustic is a no no why do you need to notch a resonator saddle. I would think this dampens tone by choking the string. Any opinions.

A tailpiece-style guitar (archtop) is typically notched, because, like a reso, the strings would shift when picked. With a saddle-bridge acoustic, the attachment of the strings is so close to the saddle that they can't move. A properly shaped notch doesn't pinch the string, and provides the maximum transfer of energy from the string to the bridge.

Been playing it without the notching and no problems strings arent shifting at all and Im using the National light gauge strings. I do play with a light pick hand with a flat pick and low action. Going to try slotting the sadlle next week and see if it affects the tone! Its just such a pain removeing the cover plate. Its an Island gutair brand got a felling its a Regal that was upgraded. Someone did a lousy job of lineing up the cover plate screw holes!!!
