Hey all, Been playing acoustic for 8 years and am trying my hand at the reso. Got a W/S 6510F from another forum member. What do you suggest as the best video, or book, for learning. I am trying to learn the right way, from the beginning, although its tough to be disciplined and start from the beginning, since i know my way around a 6 string a little bit, i fight the urge to just get straight into tabs and trying to play songs.
Your help is appreciated!
thanks, Kyle

I like lessons with troy,, you can pick and choose which tune, scale or stlye you want to work on one at a time,, very reasonable,I also like jimmy heffernan backup dvd, good overall lessons showing going from I -IV-V ect really tastefully done, rob ickes is great for advanced players,, mostly scales ect,, rob is a killer ,, I also like mike witchers new book,,comes with a cd, just songs in tab, but really well done,, mike and troy also offer online private lessons,,

If you want Flatt & Scruggs Bluegrass, try the instruction of workshop Records of Austin Texas (Dan Huckabee). He was an early 'instructor' in the '80's when there were few or none.He interprets josh Graves style. He has many dobro instruction products some DVD and some CD.The specific one I recommend is "Licks and Fills and backup". It is a 4 CD set--based on the songs of Flatt & Scruggs and breaks down the licks Josh used to become the (Bluegrass) King of the Dobro.Good instruction with many movable licks that apply to any straight bar position.

AFTER I posted above I noted same on sale at an e bay store.Auction ends 4/23 on item 120407613493.If you look up that item number on E Bay you will find a better description of contents than my description above. This is a CD course, not a DVD.Dan's instruction is calm and slow paced. He doesn't 'race' along like some courses do, leaving the listener "lost" from too rapid instruction.

Another thumbs up for the Rob Ickes "Essential Techniques" DVDs. I also highly recommend Orville Johnson's "Licks, Tricks, and Techniques for Dobro" volumes 1 and 2 as well as Jimmy Heffernan's stuff. All three are great teachers.

Check out Jimmy Heffernans stuff and lessons with Troy. Both seem to be very easy to absorb and build from.
