Sounds ok. IT sounds like a Dobro [1984], If you wonder why Dobros are not the Reso of choice any more -this will tell you why. Its OK, crisp, typical sound-well type sound. BUT not a Sheerhorn or Beard boom. I wanted an affordable 8 and this was the best [ actually the ONLY one] I found. Loud enough for jams etc. |

Setup

Setup from Elderly was very good. 8s have closer string spacing and this one was fine. Ive gotten a few things from Elderly and have always been pleased with the results. |

It looks like a typical D-60 [ the body is the same only the neck is different] Good chrome, good wood [ plywood] Open slotted head. keys ok. NOT ga-ga looks, but very typical of top of the line dobros from this era. |

It seems very well made. Fit and finish were very good [even used] chrome is 100% not much wear, tuners ok, tailpiece [ taken from a gibson style 12 string is standard issue] good. Ive had no problems, no rattles, shakes, cone problems |

Dobro is fine example of sound well type cone. It sounds OK, not as good as a 1934 model i played once [ that was awesome] but good servicable. Ive played a Beard 8 and its a lot nicer and sounds a lot better -but was $2k more- so about right for the price i paid |

Well ive always wanted a 7 or 8 string [ 7s are really hard to find] i like the idea of having minor chords right under the bar. Of course its weirder than a 6 string [ not better just weirder]. for my style its very good. I wouldnt recommend it to most 6 string players [ if you are a good one you wont need 8 strings] the 8th string i have tuned down to "D" up from E so its like a 6 string LOW bass tuning with an extra sting D-G-B-D-E-G-B-D. nice for hawaiian stuff and of couse swing songs [G6 under a bar] |

It sounded pretty good. I played a round neck with nut extended at a music shop [ it sounded great] this is a square neck. It needed an upgrade from Paul Beard to sound good. |

A few annoying buzzes and rattles. other than that not a bad setup. The REFIT at Reso Outfitters corrected all of the problems forever. |

Not cheap but import quality parts. Tuners ok but could be improved. Orig nut was plastic/refit is bone. cone ok but not a Quarterman by any streach. for a -$500 guitar not bad. spider is a bit wobbley. Beard sanded it and fixed the problem |

I sold this instrument to a student when i got my real DOBRO, he still has it and I still play it on occasion. Its held up pretty well. still sounds pretty good [ with the refit] the newer models [RD-45, etc] dont seem as well made as the older RD-65. |
