For Sale: Wright Custom Steel Guitar, 1950s (nonpedal) 4 neck, fully restored - $2,400 USD

**This is now on consignment at Mass St Music in Kansas; if you have any interest, please contact them at 785-843-3535 or via their website or socials.

Wright Custom Steel Guitar, 1950s era, from famous builder Chuck Wright, the founder of Sierra Steel Guitars. I bought this steel from the son of the original owner, who conducted an extensive restoration of the guitar documented at the Steel Guitar Forum (PLEASE check this out as it details all the restoration details):
<a href="https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=244990&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=f0602ca0de6a3d1b860dedded47bdf36." target="_blank">bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewto...d47bdf36.</a>
Non-pedalers note that the string spacing is more akin to pedal steel spacing (narrower than, say, a Fender Dual 8 or the like).

In addition to the restoration, he had a beautiful tweed custom case made for the guitar. He was also able to acquire a Wright volume/"doo wah" pedal (included with the sale).

This is a true case of "find another one," as I'm told there is only one other Wright of this configuration known to be in existence currently.

The whole shebang is heavier than a baby whale, hence the local pickup. I'm not even sure how you would ship a guitar this heavy. It's an amazing, nearly one of a kind steel. The electronics are all functional but some could use a little cleaning/tlc for crackling, etc.

Please feel free to write with any questions, and thank you for looking.

For Sale: Bill Asher US built Weissenborn Teardrop - $2,200 USD

I have a Weissenborn "Teardrop" copy hand-built personally by Bill Asher in California. This is not an Asian-built guitar as nearly all Weissenborn Ashers are now sourced. Those familiar with Bill's work know that he has built some of the most accurate and best sounding Weissenborn reproductions anywhere for years, used by professionals such as Ben Harper, Greg Leisz and others. This one is Sapele wood, built true to the style of the 20's and 30's, very lightweight, top-notch in tone and construction, with a satin (oil?) finish. This is Asher's Teardrop #4, constructed in 2004 and I am the original owner. The guitar has very few and very tiny pick marks but is, otherwise, in mint condition. I have a Sunrise pickup installed and a Sunrise buffer box. The sunrise, used by David Lindey and many others (look 'em up), sounds fantastic...huge, in fact and cost nearly $1,000.00 just by itself. That is, if you can find one. The Sunrise store is usually sold out as he only builds a fixed number each year. The guitar also comes with a beautifully-fitting and very solid Cedar Creek case. Asking price is $2200.00 with the pickup and buffer box, or $1700.00 without the pickup, plus $100.00 for CONUS shipping. Here’s a YouTube link for audio clip….my intonation wasn’t very good that day!

For Sale: Tony Francis Style 1 Weissenborn - $2,500 USD

UPDATE: After changing my mind some years ago, I am putting this piece of musical art back on the market. I have since had an L.R. Baggs Lyric installed.

--------

Regretfully, I am selling my Style 1 Weissenborn made by New Zealand luthier Tony Francis. This beautiful instrument was built in 2009 with varnish finish, lacquer topcoat, and an amazing tone. There are some very minor bar marks as shown in the photos, but otherwise excellent condition. It comes with a Dunlop Lap Dawg slide bar.

Tony has advised that there is up to a 7 year wait list on these now, and he stopped taking orders a couple of years ago. The brand new price is $3500 USD.

I am asking $2500 USD and am prepared to ship at the buyer's expense.

For Sale or Trade: Kanile&#39a Super Tenor Uke - $1,200 USD

Final price drop. Up for sale or partial trade is my 2019 KSR ST DLX super tenor model from Kanile'a of Hawaii. It features beautiful Hawaiian koa with an arm bevel for extra comfort when playing. It comes with the Kanile’a custom fit case and has always been humidity controlled. The slothead is the classic squared off look but with the slim profile for lighter weight. This uke utilizes the new Kanile’a TruR bracing which is lighter and more resonant. This makes for an excellent sounding lightweight instrument you will love!
The 2019 models also feature a gloss finish body and smooth "silk" finish neck. This gives you the best in look and feel. It's a super tenor body for a bigger tone and but has the regular 17" tenor scale.
I am the second owner but I find myself playing less ukulele these days and will still have plenty of Uke’s to satisfy my cravings.
I am asking $1200 for this beautiful instrument. Current list price is $2345.00 from Kanile’a. Hit me up with your trade offers, you never know what I might need or want.

I am located on the northeast coast of Florida near Jacksonville.
Thanks, Phil

For Sale: Hudson Custom made Pedal Steel Guitar - $1,650 USD

August 12, 2024

Custom made pedal steel guitar for Tom Engleman in Bethlehem, PA year 2020
Made by Jimmie Hudson. This is an 8 string, 4 floor pedal, 4 knee lever steel guitar.
The request I made was to be able to have an E9th and a C6th on the same neck. I traded Jimmie Hudson my Emmons 1970’s model S10 3-1 and a Carter Starter 3-4 pedals steel…for the custom-made Hudson.
I only played this steel guitar for a couple hours back in 2020…I put a couple “tracks” on you-tube to demo the Steel.
The steel has never been out of the house and has been covered or cased since then.
I don’t play with any band or with jam sessions…my hands are messed up with arthritis.
This will be a great pedal steel for the next person to master the tuning changers.
It will not ship Internationally.
Sale price is $1,650.00…and $150.00 shipping. It can also be picked up in Bethlehem, PA.
Ask any questions you may have.
Go to Tom Engleman blog and view the photos I posted....Under Hudson

For Sale: c.1920s Weissenborn Kona Style One Hawaiian Guitar: Figured Koa Body, Fine Shape, Brilliant Voice - $1,995 USD

Scale: 24 3/4" Width at Lower Bout: 13" Body Depth, Neck to Endpin: 3"- 4 1/4" Nut Width: 1 5/8" String Spacing at Bridge: 2 3/8" Weight: 2lb. 8oz.

Materials: Solid figured Koa body, neck and fingerboard; hardwood 'bat-wing' bridge with aluminum saddle; solid bone nut; original 3 on a plate open back tuners with ivoroid keys.

Notes: German born luthier Karl Weissenborn never set foot in the Islands, yet became one of the most renowned builders of acoustic Hawaiian lap style guitars. Setting up shop in Los Angeles before WWI, by 1923 he was producing instruments under both the Kona and Wissenborn labels, among others. His four models were all built of solid Koa, with combination X and ladder bracing, varnish finish, and varied chiefly in the details of their ornamentation, until production all but ended by the mid-30s.

This fine example of his Style One is simple and clean in design, with a solid Spanish style neck, pearl dot fingerboard inlays, and a three ring soundhole purfling. At a scant 2lb 8oz, the instrument is phenomenally light in weight and wonderfully resonant, with a brilliant, bell-like tone and excellent sustain. Well maintained, the instrument is notably free of pick or buckle wear, with its age showing principally in some weathering of its whisper-thin, hand rubbed varnish finish on the top, and a few incidental finish nicks on the side.

Hardware is all original as well, including the 3 on a plate open back tuners, and hardwood bridge (possibly walnut) with its thin anodized aluminum saddle. Remarkably, the body and neck show no apparent cracks, with the only repair being the reglued bridge, which is also secured with a tiny bolt under a pearl dot for added stability. The solid Koa body shows handsome bookmatched figure in the back, with a fingerboard graced with attractive curly woodgrain as well.

A pleasing alternative to the resonator steel guitars, the Wissenborns have a warmer tone, with shimmering harmonics, and have been embraced by players from David Lindley to Ben Harper. With Weissenborn style steels now widely reissued by a variety of contemporary luthiers, this rare original is a remarkable find, and a pioneering piece of fretted history. One only: call now.

Case: Newer black plush lined hardshell case.

Brand new j45 skunk stripe dark brown finished.

428’1/2 mm scale length
20 frets
Mahogany AA neck back and sides
Sitka spruce AA top with ebony skunk stripe
All binding is maple with BWB purfling
Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
Bone nut saddle and nut
Very light oil finish

No scratch plate on this guitar at the moment I do have a suitable plate if required,
Free tracked shipping worldwide and hard case included.
£2500

Very nice guitar good sound straight away on set up,the sound board is on the thin side on this instrument and all the internal bracing is 6.5 mm wide so a very light guitar for the size of it.
The reverse bridge is something that divides opinion,
I personally quite like it and the fact that it is shifted forward on the top accounting for the short scale length gives a warmer sound.

For Sale: Fishook Custom Lapsteel Guitar - JD Myers, Red Adirondack Spruce & Black Walnut - $3,800 USD

$3800 USD shipped in North America. This stunning handmade lap steel was crafted by the noted builder J.D. Myers of Ohio. This instrument dates to 2008, and is named "Lil Miss Bri". She is numbered 02, but I believe that she was made about 10 years into Mr. Myers career as a luthier.

I had the pleasure of communicating with Mr. Myers about this instrument, I inquired about the wood of the back and sides, this is part of his response:

"Hello Randy , The wood is 100+ yr old black walnut. I bought the wood from an elderly woman, 94 yrs old. She said her and her sister sat on the logs as her uncle pulled them to the barn yard. He cut the logs lengthwise with an old hand cross cut saw. Some of the most beautiful black walnut I've ever ran across."

He also confirmed to me that the X-braced top is red spruce (Adirondack), and the guitar was built for raised action lap-steel style playing. This is a very rare build, as Mr. Myers now produces prized resonator instruments. It is, most definitively, an amazing guitar.

The guitar is in its original lap steel configuration, with a tall nut, and thick bridge. It sounds incredible, with a huge, character voice. Powerful, complex, articulate, this is a great guitar. The instrument has barely been handled over its 16 years, with very few signs of use. The arch top case appears to be original to the guitar, and still has its hang tags.

Rare Custom Melabro Resonator Model XVII
It was my fathers, and he passed away 17 years ago. I do not know how to play the dobro and I hate to part with it. But I would really love for a talented Dobro player to play it to carry on my dad’s legacy. It will come with several custom-made tone bars that my Daddy made. Even Jerry Douglas uses my Daddy’s custom made tone bars.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thank you!

For Sale: 1956 I believe Fender Lap Steel - $1,100 USD

As best we can tell this is a 1956 Fender Lap Steel. This was owned by a friend of mine. When he went into assisted living, he got it out for us to play together. When he plugged it into the amplifier it kept cutting out. I offer to have the guitar repaired. I took the guitar to Mark Lavelle, who works on my Black Beard and countless other instruments from around the country. I had him do the following. The changed the tuner knobs because they disintegrated when you tried to turn them. He repaired the short in the guitar. He repaired the volume and tone knobs. I have the originals POTAS and they will be included with the guitar. The pickup WAS NOT touched. This pickup is something I had never seen. If you get close enough you can talk through the pickup. That was everything done to the guitar. I know there is a "what it is worth price" and there is a willing to pay price. My best guess is the what it is worth is around $1500. I will take the best offer over $1000. If some of you that are truly experts on this instrument will give me a what its worth value then I will adjust my price accordingly. I will be in the State until May 30, then I will be cruising Alaska until June 16. You can reach me by email <a href="mailto:kdtfrench@yahoo.com">kdtfrench@yahoo.com</a> if you have any questions.

For Sale: Handmade Lap steel - $225 USD

I built this Lap Steel out of a piece of Poplar hard wood from a lap steel kit. All made out of one piece of wood with the headstock and pickup cavity notched out with a saw. A great practice or travel instrument as it doesn't make much noise unplugged but makes enough noise to hear yourself practice. This is the first one I've built so far and I've already had tons of fun with it. Dimensions are 1.5x3.5x32" with a pickup jack on the end.

For Sale or Trade: Gold Tone SM+ Weissenborn - $675 USD

I’ve decided to offer my Gold Tone SM+ Weissenborn with fitted hardshell Weissenborn case for sale. I acquired this this past January and have played it for only a few hours total since then, and it has no issues. It’s in mint condition and I will restring it with John Pearse Weissenborn strings before sending it out. I am asking $675 plus shipping, which is meant to be reasonable given the new price and the condition of this. I’ll also consider reasonable offers, or local trades in the Philadelphia, PA (US) area. Please feel free to DM me if you are interested or if you have any advice or feedback on the listing. Thanks!
