Thinking lap steel

I think it would be fun to play with some friends that do some country. Even pretty good ones aren't extremely pricey. The Asher Hawaiin Jr. looks to be a good entry model especially having double humbuckers. Sound post on his site sounds fine to my ears. Any others that would make good buys?

Saw them perform in a church here in Bozeman last night. Can't have been more than 50-75 people there, and I got to meet all of them afterwards. Some cool fellas, and wicked pickers too. Greg Cahill sure knows what the hell he's doing, but I suppose it's kinda hard being president of the IBMA without knowing how to shred some kind of instrument.

Converting files to MP3

I just "discovered" a feature in a program I've used for a long time and raved about before. It's the free VLC player from http://www.videolan.org/ It can play just about any audio and video in existence. It can slow down songs and maintain pitch. It can stream audio and video. It can capture audio and video from external devices. You can also loop between 2 points. I didn't find much documentation on this feature, but there's a looping button right on the player. As the file is playing click once to set the start point then the second time to set the end point. It can also convert many formats to MP3 (and to many other formats). VLC is somewhat unique since it comes with all it's own "codecs" (converters, decoders) so it doesn't depend on any additional codecs that many other players need.

PayPal Question

I have finally decided to sign up for PayPal and I thought I would ask here for suggestions, do's and don't, etc. So far I see a page asking for my checking account information but PayPal says I can use a credit card. It seems to me that credit cards would be more secure since I can go to the credit card, Visa, if someone tried to rip me off. I know most people swear by PayPal but I have never been able to talk myself into using my checking account for it. Any suggestions on what to do before I take the plunge? BOTH attract unusually high number of reso guys from Pa., Md.,Va., Del. on Thursday. By Friday New Englanders, and Canadians, and some south Floridians add in. TWO biggies. DelVal simple location--8 miles (in N.J.) opposite Wilmington Del and a little south off I-95 from Phila. and a little Noth from Baltimore off I-95. No wonder reso guys from 5 states come in Thursday night. Hey everyone, I really need you to help me make up my mind, I'm planning to move to Australia, I though of it for a while… now I want to get a visa and immigrate there, I heard that the progress of getting a visa supposed to be free, I looked online for more details and found out its not easy as I thought it would be. Hello, Franklin from CT here. I'm glad I finally found a place for us resophonic nerds to gather! I look forward to learning a lot and sharing what I already know. I play a Goldtone Beard round neck model national type, it was a gift from my wife. I've wanted one for years, but never played a cheaper one that I liked enough to buy, and could never justify paying for what I really want when I don't know if I'll ever gig with it. Anyway, I'm not 100% in love with it, especially after I made the choice to add a Fishman p'up/mic. It didn't sound "as good" after and I didn't like it amplified. I never bought a DI or LR Baggs pre amp. Anyway, nice to "meet" you all! :)
