Beard setup vs Goldtone (florida) setup

I have been reading a lot about the setups on Beard Goldtone Squarenecks. The consensus seems that it is best to have them setup by Beard.

What I don't really understand is why the Goldtone setups are considered to be so inferior - they use all the same parts - cones, spiders, bone nut, bridge - and are both trained by Beard and the instrument has Beard's signature on it.

I am almost 70, have been playing for about a year, and expect to just play with locals for fun. Does anyone think I would really be able to tell the difference? I want to buy a PBSM.

100 Pound Milestone Today!

At today's weigh-in I crossed the 100 pounds barrier. That's right! I have lost 100 pounds since last Memorial Day! Being brought back to life with the defibrillator five times in one day provides strong motivation to get compliant and do what my cardiologist recommends. Today I'm wearing jeans that I haven't fit in for over ten years. I'm not done yet. I hope to waste away to normal and lose another fifty pounds by the end of this year.

Upgrade to Goldtone

Hi All,

After a year I'm still a beginner, on my Regal RD-40 Squareneck. But I think it may be time for a 'move-up. I would appreciate comments on the Goldtone PBS, PBS-D and PBS-M models. I've listened to sound bites of all three and can't really tell the difference ( may be my 69 year-old ears). I understand the variation in construction of all 3.

Which one would you suggest, and do you think this is a sensible upgrade? I don't play in a band.

I don't usually post my book reviews here, but this book has so much to say to musicians and wanna-be musicians (like me) about learning and playing as well as a lot about music in general I thought I'd offer it to you. I'll be up (likely) on Thursday evening as long as I can get around NYC.

I always have a blast at this festival. Last year, I got to meet Phil Leadbetter, one of the nicest guys in the world, and Dan Burke.... a fantastic builder who had some awesome guitars with him.

I can't wait. Hopefully, I'll see some of you there!

Difference between Reso-Nation & Resohangout?

Hey guys, this is more of an opinion kind of topic. Sometimes I notice that Reso-Nation doesn't have a lot of activity on it compared to Resohangout, and it makes me ask the question of what are some your opinions of the differences between the 2 forums. I don't mean to step on any toes here, because I love both forums, but I'm just curious about what kind of feedback I would get by just throwing this question out there.

In my opinion I've noticed the "Reins" aren't pulled as tight on this forum than on RN, and I wonder if that makes peope feel more comfortable posting.

Just thought I'd stir the pot a bit and see what comes to the surface. :-) But like I said, not to bash either forum, but just seeing what your opinions are. Heck it may improve both forums to draw on the strong suits of each.

Well, I am back. I can't begin to express my appreciation to each and every one of you. You wre all so kind. It touched me in ways you will never know and I can't express. I will give you a brief synopsis of where I am now. There are still tests to be done so there are still some things looming. As it stands right now I have congestive heart failure, arterial fibrillation, clpd and sleep apnea. I had one stint and a pacemaker implanted and will be on oxygen the rest of my days. Damn, and a week and a half a go I thought all I had was the flu. Well that's me, if you're going to do it, do it BIG. I guess there isn't much more to tell you except I love you all.

Just off the phone with Mike. He has had his surgery to implant the pacemaker / defibrillator and says he is already feeling much better. Lost 20 lbs in water weight with his meds. His diagnosis is COPD, congestive heart failure, sleep apnea and atrial (?) fibrillation. He has already stopped smoking. He is in good spirits and really appreciates everybody's concerns. He is hospitalized in Bay City Michigan, about sixty miles from home so makes it a little tougher. He may be released to home tomorrow. He will be back on as soon as he can.

RIP Warren Hellman

Warren Hellman, the San Francisco financier whose willingness to fund an unlikely range of passions made him a force in Bay Area politics,education and music, died Sunday evening from complications of leukemia, his family said. He was 77.

He was the man who bankrolled the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Last week they renamed Speedway Meadow to Hellman Hollow in his honor. Fortunately he set up a foundation to continue providing the concerts for at least the next ten years.

Greetings Music Lovers,

My name is Barry R. Willis; I wrote "America's Music: Bluegrass - A History
of Bluegrass Music in the Words of Its Pioneers" which came out in 1997. It
was purely a love of the music that I wrote it, but customers seemed to like
it so I'm ready to take it to the next level.

I want to place the ninety hours of interviews used to create it into an
interactive format so that customers can hear the actual conversation I
had with the individual.

I'm sure bluegrass fans will LOVE to hear these actual interviews. Many
of the people I interviewed are gone now. Hearing their voices brings
them to us live.

I will also bring up-to-date the Appendix in the book which lists the births
and deaths of hundreds of people in bluegrass. And, as necessary, bring some
of the original book chapters up-to-date. Extensive linking is necessary to
make this a really interactive and interesting book.

I need a "techie" who loves bluegrass who has the capability of helping
bring this to life. The interviews and new photos and videos will be placed
on a server and be accessed from a computer. The original book can fit on
one DVD, but the huge library of interviews cannot be done in the same way;
they must be placed remotely for people to access via an internet server.

Pay? The pay is as a partner with me. The pay comes after the product comes
out. So, the better the product is done, the more the pay. I will also
solicit sponsors.

1.3.14 is now the only version that supports Windows 7, Windows Vista

and Mac OS X 10.4 to 10.7. Please upgrade to 1.3.14 if you are using

Audacity 1.2 on those systems. You can install Audacity Beta on the same

computer as Audacity 1.2 if you install to different directories. If you are

upgrading from a previous Beta release, you can install "over the top"

into the same directory.
