Chris Stockwell is a contemporary Dobro player recognized as much for his adherence to bluegrass tradition and expanding the role of the Resophonic guitar(Dobro)and branching out into playing many other styles of music.As a West Virginia Native, Stockwell considers himself very blessed to have been around music his entire life.Chris was exposed to the Dobro playing of Jerry Douglas.The sound immediately caught his attention and In 2001 he got his first Dobro, and he has been playing Dobro ever since.
As a member of The Rarely Herd a band that has garnered over120 National, International and Regional awards and nominations, The Herd was named one of Europe's 'Top 3 Best New Bands' and have been featured on CMT, TNN, GAC, and Japan's network giant NHK-TV. In 2003, The Rarely Herd received the Grand Masters Gold Award at the National Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. This was given to The Herd in honor of their 10 consecutive wins as 'Entertaining Band of the Year' ' a feat unequaled in the history of these awards
A previous member of the Johnny Staats Project and Honi Deaton and Dream.As an active session player and touring musician, he has collaborated with a wide range of musicians with such artists as Lou Reid And Carolina, Pinmonkey,Ron Sowell, Tim O'Brien,The Mountain Stage Band,Wyatt Rice,Step into the Blue,The Dillards, Drew Emmitt Band, ,Duane Simpson,Matt Kiser, Chet Lowther,The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra,Peggy Ratusz, Joshua Singleton,Levi Douglas The Appalachian Childrens Choir and many others.
