Since I am new to playing a resonator, actually looking to buy my first one, I am wondering what the difference is between the two.
Also there are electric resonators. Are there negatives or positives to these?
Last question/comment this time: One of my local stores has 2 resonators, both Danville. Any comments?
After reading this forum I am leaning towards a Gold Tone, but might be able to work out a deal for the Danvilles if they are worth considering.
Thanks for any/all advice in advance.

Hi and welcome. Short answer Square neck lap style, Round neck guitar style. I'm sure others will chime in here. Under "Product Reviews and Shopping Advice" go to "First Resonator Guitar" post and read all the comments. A lot of good information there. Any other questions ask, everybody here is MORE than willing to help you out myself included. FWIW As far as electric there is a lot of pro's and con's with a lot of discussion still going on, as far as I can tell the jury is still out. Mike

Get the Gold Tone with a Beard set up. Simples. Available as either a round neck or squareneck.

I agree with Alan. The "Beard" Gold tone IMHO is the best out there for the money. You need to make sure that it is set up by Beard though. You are right here in Michigan, I don't know how far Lansing is, but Elderly instruments is an authorized Beard Gold Tone dealer. If you go there you can put your hands on one. It is well worth the trip, this is the greatest candy store for musicians I have ever been in. You can play a 25k guitar if you want. Stan believes instruments are made to be played. All their units are set up by Beard or you can also order online from them, Jimmy Heffernan (who is the salt of the earth and will help you out anytime) or directly from Beard. Paul and his people are the greatest as well. They will spend whatever time is necessary to insure you are happy with your purchase. This is worth a lot to me. Try calling Tokyo Mike
