About a year or so ago she was on the Marty Stuart Show. She looked very feeble and she had a difficult time singing her part. But, she did her best and she did good. I figured it would be one of her last performances. She blazed a trail for all the female singers that have followed her since. There will be only one Kitty.

From Wikipedia: "Her 1952 hit recording, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels", made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts, and turned her into the first female country star. Her Top 10 hits continued until the mid-1960s, inspiring a long list of female country singers who came to prominence in the 1960s."
Like Earl who paved the way for countless banjo players (and, because of his association with Josh Graves, paved the way for countless dobro players), Kitty Wells opened the door for female country artists. Another icon and musical treasure is gone. Charlie Collins, Levon Helm, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Kitty Wells. Not a good year for my heroes.
