I have a Rogue square neck with a Beard cone that's been a pretty good learner. I've ran across a guy who has a 4 month old Regal RD 40 with a gig bag that he wants $250 for. I haven't gone to look at it yet and was wondering if it would be a decent step up from what I have or pretty much the same. Any opinions on the Rd 40 compared to the Rogue?

I've owned them both and I think the Regal was the better guitar.
As with all Asian imports, play before you buy!
Some of them can be pretty good players while the one behind it on the assembly line will be firewood.

I don't think a Regal is going to be a significant improvement from what you have. If you just want a second guitar, check it out. YMMV.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe with the exception of the Gold Tone set up by Beard or the W/S, chinese is chinese. Good advice as well on play before you buy, the one thing consistent with the asian imports is their inconsistency.

I agree. It is not a step up considering you have a Beard cone in you Rogue. Play with your setup to see what it does unless you already have.

I hate to sound like a snob, but MY Regal was made in Korea, not China.

You obviously failed to find the intended humor in my first post.

Thanks, I guess I'll stick with my old clunker for now. I don't put a lot of time and effort into learning (like I should) and my skill level doesn't justify me buying a really good USA made reso at this time. |
