My reso has developed a buzz that I'm pretty sure is from the tailpiece making conatct with the cover plate. I folded a piece of paper and slipped under it and it stopped. What's the best way to deal with this?

There should be an insulator between the tailpiece and the coverplate or you will get a buzz. Rubber, leather or even a piece of velcro works.

Okay, Dean. I've got some scrap leather in the shop. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Thx for the video. I just discovered this buzz on my reso and stuck a business card under there until I change strings so I can do it properly. Awesome tip! |

One of the things you will find useful in your toolbox are old tooth brushes, they are nice for removing the marmalade jam around the fret board on any kind of guitar. And to your buzz query, whenever you are throwing out an old pair of shoes, cut the tongues out of them, this will do the same job that Dean mentioned with the Beard leather. |

Hobby shops often sell a felt product in sheets, with an adhesive on the back under a "pull off" sheet. It is easy to cut to any shape, and becomes almost invisible because it is thin. It doesn't move around, or change the height of the tailpiece much either,
This product is used to put underneath things, so they won't mar the surface they set on. Gene Warner repairman |
