Eric--I play a Weissenborn copy and I don't feel as though there's a place for me here.

I would like to see it stay Reso Hangout. It seems to me that a steel is an electric type of instrument and my reso in acoustic. That being said I would still visit as often as I do now and would not complain about the steel guys taking over. No offense meant to anyone. You all know how tempermental Dobro players are.

I'm wondering if "Reso" Hangout is too narrow of an audience--if it would make sense to expand the site's reach to all steel guitar players (pedal steel, lap steel, etc), not just those playing resophonic guitars.
Let me know what you think!
_eric schlange Fiddle Hangout Webmaster -------------------------------- Why should a dobro player never leave home without his slide? Just in case he''s in an accident, he wouldn''t want to be mistaken for a banjo player. -------------------------------- Hi Eric, I just joined the site and have been learning for about three years but I think we can all learn techniques from players of any slide instrument even though we may not play their particular instrument. I would suggest it would be a good idea to expand the site as you are considering.........Kevin

What about Reso players who play a Weissenborn as well and are interested in both? I.m.O., the main difference is the tuning in G/A or D/E and the sound - and this gives you wider possibilities for different songs.
So what's the reason for beeing so unilateral?

I like "Reso Hangout." I'd leave it that if it were my decision. However, since lap style guitars in particular are all played pretty much in most ways, I'd have no problem seeing the techniques of "steel" pickers too.

If you use a brass bar, wouldn't it be called "The Brass Hangout"? |

As a pedal steel player,I also belong to the steel guitar forum which is a very good forum for pedal and non pedal steel guitars.I agree with the majority in keeping reso related forums seperate. |

Gotta go with Reso myself, heck if it were me id tempt fate and call it the Dobro Hangout... until G&$^&* decided to put the screws to me anyhow... lol I agree with the RESO part in reality the family of reso/dobro/steel is covered by.. the slide hangout but anyone who has the hankerin for a steel guitar has also been looking at RESO. And i have seen some folks here with steel in mind, and finding your site, so its working as is...
If it aint broke...
opinions of a short timer = non negotiable tender lol

I vote to leave it RESO. The steel players (which I am one of also) have the Steel Guitar Forum.... which is a super great forum and they cover the steel guitar, lap steel, real well.. To me the RESO is a specialty instrument like the fiddle, banjo, mandolin. Lets not destroy the friendship we have as RESO PLAYERS by diluting RESO HANGOUT with other instruments. (My opinion) leegee |

Except Weissenborns. This thread is 2 years old and still going. I would assume by now the point is moot. |

Quote: "Why should a dobro player never leave home without his slide? Just in case he''s in an accident, he wouldn''t want to be mistaken for a banjo player."- Eric But I also am a banjo player. Should I carry a possum hide or something, in addition to my Whaley Royce tone bar? I "play " lap steel, but I'm already here, so don't bother changing the name. Sounds too much like some kinda PC concept. Paul |
