How do you remove the screws from around the resonator to put a new bridge under the tail piece without stripping of the screws.They are really in there and am scared they will break off

I'm a tad bit confused by your description. The bridge is under the coverplate, not the tailpiece. What kind of guitar do you have and is it a spider bridge, biscuit bridge, tri cone or Del Vecchio?
(I think that covers all the bases) ;-)
