I have done some research re which pickup to put into my Tricone resonator. I would like the Schatten TC-A (active) or the Schatten TC passive. Which one should I get. I don't mind having to open up the guitar to change the battery on an active pickup. Supposed to run for 900 hrs anyway. Thanks in advance. Schlider

If those are the two you've decided between, the active pickup will not require a preamp in most situations, whereas the passive will require a preamp. Whether that preamp is built into the amplifier you're using or an external preamp such as the Fishman, consider that an extra expense.
I just bought a Lace Sensor Ultra Slim tricone pickup and so far I'm very satisified.
