does the string height influence the sound of the dobro? i mean would it be any difference if it put a squareneck nut (the tall one) on the roundneck or if i leave the original nut there and just put an extension nut ? want to play bluegrass/blues style of josh graves and also i wonder if an extension nut wouldn't be too low to do ho/po stuff like uncle josh and hit the fingerboard.

To me. an extension nut would be more of a bandaid than anything. They aren't quite high enough for my taste. My bar tends to hit the neck when playing the first string with the bar tipped up as in doing a hammer on. As far as tone and volume, not much difference though. A higher set of bridge inserts usually helps out in the volume department.

Not a big deal to swap out the existing nut for a tall one. Extension nut's a tone-killer.

My concern with an extension nut is intonation. Seems guitars are designed to be what they are not wht you can make them.

You dont have t worry about intonation so much, since you are usinng a slide, the intonation has to do with the frets, since you arent using them, per se, they are a guide, not an absolute...

atracksler,
There I go thinking like a round neck player. Since I fret, chord and slide on round neck my thoughts gravitated toward my personal usage. Your point is valid and well accepted.

Can someone tell me what a good string height would be at the 12th fret, for comfortable chording and also bottleneck slide? I recentely purchased a Nationa Tricone set of cones to replace my stock cones in my Regal RC-51 Tricone, I also am changing out the T bar bridge, and bought the National Tricone T bar bridge, along with the hard maple ebony insert. Now the only thing I have to do is, sand the Maple ebony insert down to an acceptable height for good playability and intonation. So can someone please help me with this, and put me on the right track, I realise their is a lot of trial and error in the set-up of these guitars, this is the last thing I have to do and then Im off and running! (Can't wait) also was thinking about changing out the bone nut at the headstock with a Gibson brass nut. Any and all input "ASAP" is appreciated! Quik note: The neck on my Regal is not radisused it is flat.
Thank's alot fella's
