I am changing out a cone in an inexpensive duolian style reso. The old cone has about a 1/4" of play in the recess for the cone to move around... the new National cone has maybe a 1/16" .... will this effect set-up? I'm guessing that the cone doesn't need to be contacting the wall sides after being strung up.... seems to me that would inhibit the cones ability to vibrate. This is my first reso.... but I'm fairly well schooled on setting up my other instruments. Any advice is appreciated.
TIA
LD

Looks like you got lucky with the new cone 1/16" is just about perfect, your set up should be better than it was before, assuming everything else is the same. Phil

Almost done..... Set-up went well.. Only need to lower the action a tad bit. That hotrod cone took me from a thin tinny sound to a more well rounded tone... Lots more bass response across all the strings and more volume too.

the new nationals do sound really good. I have a cheap mahogany-body reso and replaced the cone with one of the hotrod cones and it sounds like a real guitar now.
