Seems like the featured videos should be given a more equal time if possible. Some are on for days, others get bumped after a few hours, before you even knew they were there. This looks like when someone posts a video, that it replaces at once the one that was there. I guess it would have to be monitored by someone ?
I think the featured video should stay for at least 24 hours to give everyone a chance to see it without going to the archives. I noticed that once a video is in the archives, it isn't watched very often.

Jim , I agree as well , I put up a video of an Oswald Song , that was up for about 4 hours and got replaced by a Lap Steel song . My Song , Kaulah ,is the only video version on You tube and I don't even know how close it was to Oswald's version . I had to call Charlie Collins and play the tune just to get the name of the song .

It would probably take some time intensive programing to accomplish this. Eric may not have the resources or the money to do this. Not to mention the back log of videos that would pile up behind the current featured video that has 24 or 48 hours on the main screen. I think we just need to be aware that there is a Media link in the upper left corner for those who want to view all the videos available. Click and you can watch all the videos and hear all the juke box you want. You shouldn't need the main screen to remind you they are available. Besides, I find it quite entertaining exploring the links. Sometimes we need a break from reading the forum. Just my 2 cents worth.

Dan, I agree to a certain extent. However, for the new comers and it takes a while for them to learn to navigate the site. Also, if you look at the very recent video posts there was one posted at 7:19, 7:32, 7:40, and 1:30 in the same day, by the same person, with one in between the last two. Be honest don't you think that is a bit much? If you want people to see you perform a concert, join a band. And on top of that they were not reso related. This is primarily a Reso site, there are Steel and Lap Steel forums. Weissenborn is another story, there IS no other forum, kind of a limbo so they post where they can. I see nothing wrong with these. You also have the option to put up a "new topic" post under "playing" with a link to your video's then if people want to watch 1 or 100 they can. This is just my opinion.

Mike - I do agree with you on the content and the overload of multiple videos all at once. This is a reso site. If there is no reso content in the video, then it does not belong here. I think the featured video spot on the main page feeds a lot of egos and if you get bumped off, you get your feelings hurt. I'm not immune to having my feelings hurt either. I don't think any web master has a way of preventing these kind of incidents. You give people an open forum and there is always going to be those who take unfair advantage and maybe inadvertently ruin it for those who are trying to stick to the subject. I frequent the pedal steel forum and the flatpicker hangout, too, but would never abuse them by putting reso only content on their web sites. Unfortunately, we can't count on everyone to use good judgment when they put stuff out there. I don't understand why somebody put 4 videos in a row out there of lap steel either but my idea of good judgment is not the same as everybody else. I don't mind lap steel or Weissenborn content on a reso site because some of the tunings and playing technique are related and in my mind somewhat valid. But the carpet bombing is a bit much. If you want to be seen, I agree, go play in public. I don't expect there are too many record company executives that monitor this site looking for talent so let's all just have a good time and share some resonator tunes.

Dan, we agree. I think that is where we can all help out informing those that may not understand the decorum that should used on the site and a little respect and common sense in use of same. I have absolutely no problem with occasional Lap Steel. Like i said I know a lot of reso players that started on Steel Guitar as well as those that have gravitated to Lap as well as playing the res. This I also found true with the Wessie. As I said, I will be getting a Wessie in a little over a month and would welcome and like to post content on this instrument as well, just not to the point of taking over a reso site. I have actually considered starting a Weissenborn site to move those players out of limbo and into the mainstream. There are a lot of extremely talented players out there. I know two sites that include them but I feel sometimes they feel they are being intrusive. Oh well, now we have that all settled.

I' m sorry for my 4 videos on short times on lapsteel .I make immédiatly the same musik on 4 videos with my dobro open G ......Robert
Stringnut - Posted - 04/03/2010: 21:35:10
Robert - No need to apologize. I enjoyed you videos and it did seem that we were picking on you. Now that I've re-read our posts it didn't really come out right and that was never my intent. I apologize to you and hope you will not be offended. The point I am trying to make is that it does not matter how many video posts you load, you will still get bumped simply because there is no way to control the timing when someone else posts a video. So, as a result some videos stay up longer than others and some don't get seen at all. My suggestion is to get used to clicking on the media link so you don't miss any of them.

Right behind ya Dan. I headed this way after I read you post on the other. I was reading the complete thread, and you evidently type faster than me. Robert, I want to welcome you here. I hope you keep your promise and post the Dobro songs and maybe occasionally you could throw in a Lap Steel.
Join in on the forums as well, we always welcome help, information, or just plain shootin the breeze. If you ever need any help with anything, feel free to pm me and i will do what i can, if not I will see if I can find someone who will.

Are you folks ever lucky. I don't know how to even post a vid so you are all spared the pain.
But you know, thinking about what was said on the word decorum. It may mean different things to different people. It's the same to me with eating, driving or any other 60 things people do. We're told not to over eat or drink excessive. Still,I see folks every day that haven't seen their knees is 30 years, unless they sit down. These same folks don't seem to give a hoot. Get on the highway and other drivers cut you off, squeeze in where you didn't think there was room, then flip you the bird for reasons known only to them. So to expect someone to understand decorum could be somewhat difficult. I don't see that Robert meant any harm, he just didn't understand. If a way could be found to keep a video up for say, 12 hours, that would be great. But then I've see some stay 3 days because another one wasn't put up.
The one thing I think is great about this site is it self policing. I've seen very little oversight and still things move along fairly smooth, unlike another sites I could mention. Hurt somebody's feeling overe there and you get strung up at high noon by a fat man. I think the way Eric allows this one to operate is very much appreciated by everybody. And it does it very well. That's why I'm here and not there.
Now on the wessie thing, I never comment on those because I can't stand to listen to um. But if there are those folks that like the wessie, and videos are posted, that's fine. They should be enjoyed by their supporters. I see a video of one up front and I just skip it and wait on something else. And for some reason most of the videos posted of these instruments, the players look like they're in a mind set stuck in the 60's. On posting these, it doesn't bother me. I skip it and go to something else. Petal steel I dearly love, but not on basically n an accoustical site.. We all have our limits, likes and dislikes. Example- I like Troy's lessons and think he does a great job with those. But to many of his video's and it's get's old. I start to get the feeling he's promoting his lessons instead of showing us all a song he learned that we all would like. I watch part of the song he posted, and if I want to get the rest, I have to buy it. I feel strongly the front page videos should not be used as a business promotion. But again, that's just me talking. If one can do it, then 50 can also. Is that decorum? I don't know, but if the members here like it that way, and Eric sees no problem, then it's all alright. I'm only one.
I just wanted to get things off to a good start this morning.
Ok site cop, what now? :-)
pt
I guess I'm stuck on the six string dobro tuned in G picking mostly bluegrass.

110% Agreement. And helpful to EVERYONE no matter what they can afford in an instrument.

Opinions are like butt holes everyone has them and are entitled to them. You can't possibly please everyone. As far as the "look" of the Weissenborn players, personally I think the comment is somewhat of a derogatory nature. Preston, you know I say what I feel. There are many accomplished musicians that play instruments YOU don't like, but I think you took it to somewhat of a personal level. Are you saying Jerry Douglas, Mike Auldridge, Sally Van Meter, Michael Mesner, Ben Harper, Dave Lindley, Leo Kottke. Stacy Phillips, Kelly Joe Phelps, Ed Gerhard and all of them "look" like they are stuck in the 60's? Would you not take it the same way if someone said that the people that follow "traditional" bluegrass "look" like they are stuck somewhere? I think I read somewhere about someone playing Doobie Brothers music, would that person be stuck in the 70's? roflmao I personally LOVE ALL GOOD MUSIC.
Now the reso players have 2 major sites, pedal and lap steel 2, acoustic guitar 3. These are instrument specific to a certain degree. The Weissenborn players do not, as of yet, have a site. I have seen on ALL these sites, Wessie players welcomed with open arms because the people as well as the administrators realize that there is no instrument specific site for them to go. Hell even the Cigar Box players have a site with well over 3,000 members and just had their first international festival in York, PA that I have just been informed was so successful that plans for next year are already underway.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I love this site.

I will walk the line here I agree with Prestonand Grizz, I have a wessenborn and a square neck as well as a peavey power slide and a old electric lap slide tuned C6 I try to play and lessen to all of them as well as most anything posted here Eric has sorted it out on BHO and I'm sure he could do it here but so far a Preston stated this bog is self policing and I think it should stay that way THIS THE BEST BOG OF ANY so please less keep it that way
