The Banjo hangout distinguishes playing advice forums for Scruggs-style, clawhammer, and 4-string with playing, and I think that works well. This site might do the same for dobro, pedal, and slide. People who play multiple styles could move beteen forums, but pedal players would not have to weed through squareneck posts, etc.

Even the division between round neck and square neck Resonator guitars has been discussed at length many times and rejected by Eric. This is a Resonator guitar site for resonator guitar players, not a steel site. So saying the steel players have to "weed" through the Reso players posts is kind of tacky. There is already a huge site dedicated to steel and lap guitar. steelguitarforum.com/ Check out this thread resohangout.com/topic/4045 This was started back in 2008 and still being commented on as late as March 1, just a few days ago. For myself I am in total agreement. Leave it alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I believe it would become too cluttered and we would lose a lot of members.

Winter time. Grizzlies are more mellow and peaceful this time of year, as they hibernate. Good explanation, Mike!!!

My, you offend rather easily. Touchy. I play country blues with either my Martin flat top or my National. I like Eric's hangouts and was hoping this one might at least try to cater to people with varying interests such as, say, a forum for people who play Delta blues fingerstyle with or without a slide (my particular interest). My sole goal was to point out that a strategy that has worked well in another of Eric'a hangouts might be tried here.

I'm sorry if you are tired of the topic, but you're the one who chose to open, read, and
respond to it. Me, I simply ignore threads featuring topics in which I have no interest or have tired of. I'm new here and newbies sometimes introduce topics that have already been covered. I find I'm able to point users to existing threads without being boorish.

In a sense you are right in one regard: there are other fish in the sea. If I find that this site doesn't serve my needs I can go take advantage of sites that do, sorry that a format which has proven elsewhere that it can/serve broad audiences has, in this case, choosen not to.

This is rich. You come in, post 2 times, and one is about changing the site? If you had taken the time to look at the archives you would have seen the thread. II was just posted on 5 days ago so it wasn't far back. You never made an effort to look around evidently. Did you bother to read the thread, did you see how most felt? Did you see the "Blues" group? There are plenty of finger style players here, many play Delta blues, myself included only I play with a CBG. Don't put words in my mouth. I never said I was bored or offended except with your remark about "weeding" through the Reso players. You come on to a Reso site and say that? Come on what did you expect a kiss? I referenced the SGF because I didn't know if you were familiar with it and was trying to help. Imagine this if you will, I go on BH and say there should be Bouzouki players here, and tell them I shouldn't have to weed through the Banjo players. I know BH and just what i would be told there in no uncertain terms.

Shifty, I'm out of hibernation.

His super thick skin and his ability to let things roll off his back is why he is our unofficial site ambassador !

Your thread title reads "Pedal, dobro, blues guitar" which sounds like you've invented some kind of hybrid pedal steel dobro to play blues on! ANYONE who sees it, is going to click on it! You make it sound like he saw it and CHOSE to be a boor about it!

This site obviously DOESN'T serve your needs, since you chose to jump in in on post one and try to change it, so maybe GOING and TAKING ADVANTAGE of one that does is in your best interest!

If it works......don't fix it. I hate the statement "It has to grow and change with the times"

I agree there should be at least a round neck section. I play resophonic guitars, but none of them are squarenecks. But apparently players like me are not significant enough in Eric's  eyes to warrant our own forum.

As a result, I visit this website once a week, maybe. On the other hand, I'm on the Banjo Hangout daily, even though I'm a minority member (clawhammer) there, too. At least there I can easily get to what interests me. For some, this site doesn't work. At least, not very well.

Oh well. So be it.

Very well indeed. The "Groups" area that Eric introduced are a tremendous way to involve people in many different specific areas. Some are set up buy instrument, location, brand, etc etc  example Weissenborn, we have 46 members, the Blues Group 48 members, Georgia Pickers 23, Round Neck Reso 22 members, Harlow owners group 8 members, etc etc. The opportunity has been given us to affiliate ourselves with the groups available or even start a new one based on our likes and what we decide interests us. Look at them all. There are even some silly ones I think created by those that really do not understand the concept. This is a Reso site, for electric lap guitars there is SGF at 10,000+ strong. A player and member there myself I see no need to bring too much discussion of those instruments here. The breakdown of forum areas there is very good and specific.
