Guys and ladies I do not have an ear for music and a simple but effective lick that brother oswald does on the end of the world is too hard for me to figure out.  If you look at the youtub video of him playing the end of the world  on the american music shop with marty stewart and earl, at 2:45 second to about 2:50 he does a simple but interesting lick.  Can anyone explain that simply enough so a newbie no ear can understand and do it.  Many thanks to anyone that can help.

John

I found the lick.  It is on youtube under a $750 lick i learned from brother oswald.  I would have never figured it out.  Thanks TronconesAmigo for posting this lick.  It has been driving me crazy.

Also to SEE this lick from a forum member (this forum) Jim Warren of Vermont "OT Dobro", go to HIS website oldtimedobro.com. On the links at the top of the page click "videos".Jim has recorded numerous Oswald tunes and on his video you may see the bar positions from a better angle than the American Music shop of the same tune.

I cheat a little on that one, but it sounds the same. Bar 3rd string at 3rd fret and play a fwd. roll on strings 3-2-1.

Slideman,

Jim does a great job and is certainly a better player than I will ever live to be, but he does not appear to hammer on the third string like it appears that Oswald does on his video.  I believe in Oswalds video he is hammering on the third string and rolling.  That was what was driving me crazy, I did not see that hammer on until Tricones pointed it out on his video.  Tricones put the lick up on his video where he said Oswald showed him the lick.  I went back to Oswald video and it sure does appear that he is doing a hammer on with his forward roll.

TronconesAmigo,

Thank you very much.  I have to ask this question.  Is Os doing a pulloff or is he just lifting the bar getting ready to perform the next hammer on when the roll comes back around?  Maybe lifting the bar and doing a pulloff is the same thing.  I am too new to be sure.

Thanks,

John
