For those interested in Newtone strings this is a great sale. I have never seen these low of prices on them. I am set for a while or I would most certainly be ordering some Aloha's.

Looks like a good chance to try them out. I just ordered 4 sets of the bronze phosphor heavy resonator strings. 20% off and free shipping.

cool Drew. I think you'll like them. He has the widest range of Reso string gauges for the square neck of any company I know. I mean look at this. I really want to try the RM-F set.

Oops. I bought the Newtone Michael Messner National guitar strings. Did I mess up?

Grizz - Posted - 07/19/2012:  15:11:17

Well as long as they are bronze and in the gauge you want I wouldn't worry. If not call and cancel. Mike is a good guy..

Is the third string in that Aloha set wound, or not wound? I've grown fond of a non-wound 3rd string.

Grizz - Posted - 07/19/2012:  20:34:17

The third string in the Aloha set is wound.

I think maybe you mad an error.  Example: the Aloha's are $10.99 minus 20% if you use the coupon code "20offnewtone" when you check out. Which makes them $8.80 a set. All sites I know of only let you use one coupon code. If you used your 5% code you paid $9.94. So folks use the code in the post I put up as stated above.  Again the discount is taken off at checkout !!! The posted prices are his everyday price.

If you made an error contact Mike and tell him what happened and maybe he can help you out.

Seems to me that the Newtones are more expensive than most other strings, even with the 20% discount.

Is the primary advantage that Newtone offers different string gauges than you can get elsewhere? Just curious because I have never bought them...question

Dane, there are a couple reasons. One they are hand made. Two they are imported from Great Britain. No one else makes their strings like Malcolm. See below

Newtone Strings is a small British string making firm, manufacturing a comprehensive range of high quality strings for many instruments. Malcolm Newton started the company in the late 80's after being a wire rope and heavy cable maker for many years. The strings are built one at a time, inspected by their maker's eye through every step of the process. These strings are really handmade to the highest standard. Newtone Strings have researched a wide market to find the best quality Nickel, Phosphor Bronze, Stainless Steel and Steel wire.

One of the main distributors in mainland Europe is Celtic Sounds. Another string to our bow is handmade acoustic guitars - check out the link for more information.

What is the secret of Newtone Strings?

When playing with Newtone Strings for the first time you will realize that the string tension is noticeably lower than with other strings. This is achieved by using a round core string instead of a hexagonal core string. The hex core found in mass produced strings improves the bond between the bronze or nickel winding and the center core, but these strings have a stiffer feel and need a slightly higher tension to pitch to tune. Furthermore, there will always be tiny cavities between the core and the winding, allowing moisture and dirt to accumulate which soon deadens the string. Therefore, the high quality round core construction of Newtone strings results in greater string life and easier playability!

Now I, (me, myself, I). in fact do find they do last longer than conventional strings. I started using the Newtone Aloha's as they are not only a round core but a light core and it is well established that they are good especially for vintage Wessies and Lap Acoustics which I have 5 of. I also believe that Newtone has the widest range of Reso string guages of any manufacturer. Strings and beyond doesn't carry them all, however you can purchase direct from Malcolm. Here is a link to his web site. newtonestrings.com/index.htm
