Hello all,
I am so new to resos, that I don't have one ..yet! One is on the way. I've played guitar for about 40 yrs. I think a reso will add a different tone to our acoustic duo.

I've read post about cleaning the 'stuff' out of the reso. Getting the 'stuff' off of the cone. A friend told me that a lot of stuff gets in there if you play out much , which I do. I've came home with leaves in my Martin from playing outside in the fall. :)

The question... do any of you take your reso apart to clean it? Or is a good vacuum or compressed air good enough? What do you do? Leave it alone and play?

Thx
Dave (can't wait

All the above!!! Keep it in a case as much as possible, a light shot of air cant hurt and might even help to take it apart every few years. Main thing is to keep the cone clean of dust that inhibits the cone from resonating loud.

Welcome Aboard!!!!!

I have heard that at least with Nationals (so I would assume it to be true with spiders too) it is best TO NOT open the guitar up unless absolutely necessary. All that 'break-in' time will go to waste, and you'll start from square one tone-depth wise as the whole guitar needs to vibrate together for awhile.

I wanted to see the inside of my National Estralita which I've had for a year now..., but haven't opened her up, just lettin' her break in and lettin' all that magic (dust balls) build up in there...

OOPS!!!!

I'm in big trouble...I take my reso apart regularly. At least it always sounds the same!!

I'm not so sure about that 'sweet sound' theory, but ok...if they say so. Personally, I had a National for years, and it was a '33 to begin with. Sounded like **** when I got it, I cleaned it all out, and it was great after. Sometimes it just goes the other way....

Besides, how can there be rules about resos when there isn't even a handbook on how to play one...

I usually take my main player apart once a year to remove the dust bunnies, clean the cone and check out the string grooves on the bridge inserts.
