The number of post that you make, don't have anything to do with your playing ability,or knowledge of the dobro. It was the same way on the banjo hangout.I saw two or three hundred post from the same few people in less than a month's time. How can they be playing,if they are on the computer so much?I decided that most people on the banjo hangout didn't actually play the banjo, they just liked to talk about it.I was a member there for a long time NC HILLBILLY.I just wanted to rant a little.

I am also a member of BHO.And I agree with you I have seen some people with hundreds and 1,000's of post and I have wondered the same thing. I also think you are right about some of them don't play the banjo. But I can tell ya one thing I do play and you do not see a high post number on my name [same as here zeke_w15] I practice every day 3 to some times 5,6 hours every day.I joined this HO because my brother is learning to play dobro and he is a member here as well "LOCOMOTOR"...........Any way have a good day....

I have 13,295 posts on the Banjo Hangout, and I can assure you, I do play the banjo, as well as the guitar, and I take online college classes as well. It takes 5 second to make a post; that has nothing to do with how much time you have. But post count really means nothing, just how many times you've hit the submit button. It's a measure of how many times you've replied topics, that's all.

Membership is not a contest of playing ability. I play, not as much as many, or as well; partly that's due to time, partly to illness. But my interest is genuine. Some people who don't play are luthiers or are involved in some other way. I think players of all these instruments need all the friends we can get.

Maybe I should have put it this way.If someone joins either one of the hangout's,and know nothing at all about the instrument,is going to think,"Well this guy must know what he's talking about, look at his status."

To each his own, I think it is kind of stupid also.

The first 8 posts are for increasing your numbers, once you have so many posts your status changes from "Forum Newbie" to "Beginning Member" then "Average Member" then "Forum Regular"???

To some a title is important.

I am here to give and receive help!! Mostly because there is a thread just for banjo jokes!!

That's a good point, and I think that newbies may very well be taken in by it. I think that you have to read various posters and decide for yourself which ones seem to be knowledgable. Kind of like reading reviews by professional critics: the ones you agree with are the ones to whom you should pay regard.

I agree with Bird Dog in that you just have to read through the posts and pay attention to who says what. Those that actually have something intelligent to say typcically come across as such and those that are just adding verbage are just as easily spotted.

It is amazing that there are always those that just want to be seen and heard regardless.....just to drive up their post count but again, just read through the different posts and these folks will become obvious very quickly. I tend to ignore these types of folks and try to remember that it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

I've been a member of the BHO for a couple of years now and have learned quite a bit from the "knowledgeable" members on that site. But the one reason I don't go there very much any more is due to the tripe, bickering and mundane posts that seems to run ramped there anymore. It gets very old very quickly and a lot of it is due to those that are just trying to drive their post count up. Some people just have to be seen and heard - allot. But.....I suppose that's just the way it goes.

RHO seems to have a good knowledge base going on and that's a good thing. So far it has been enjoyable and I look forward to gaining new insight, knowledg and friendship through this forum. But, there will always be those that just want to be seen and heard. It's the nature of the beast.

I want some kind of gauge to show how much time I"ve wasted on the internet. HAHA

I got most of my posts on BHO by socializing and playing the games. I have no life, what do you want?
