Does anyone`s dobro out there have a stamped cone & short spider?? I`d like to try one in my dobro. I have a recent Dobro brand Oswald model. This was the set-up in Oswald`s dobro & I`d just like to try it in mine.

Not only a stamped cone. It has to be a lugged cone that will take the short spider.

Highly prized by collectors. Not so highly praised by players... :-)

I've had a couple of old Dobros that had the lug cone with the short spider and I never felt that they were anything special. The main reason they made them was for old Dobros that had a clearance problem with the cover plate.

Might be hard to try and find an original. I used to pull them out and use a standard spun cone in the old ones and when I sold the guitar off, I'd put the original set up back in.

Another thing you may want to watch if you do find an old lug cone and spider is if it will fit in your guitar.

Yeah, I had wondered about that. I figured the cone will fit, but wonder if the short spider will be tall enough to get the strings up through the cover plate. I thought if I had a cone at least, I might could shorten the legs of a regular spider & try that, although I`d like to have a vintage spider with the vintage cone.

Keep an eye on eBay. Every once in awhile old Dobro parts pop up on there.
