Hi- I think it would be useful to have some way of letting members know what key/tuning he tabs requested or on offer are in? dobro, open G,open D, DADgad etc?

Welcome to the hangout.  You'll find the majority of tabs will fall into the high open G tuning or "Dobro" tuning used widely in Bluegrass music.  So that's likely the default tuning. I think the majority of members here are G-B-D-G-B-D players first and foremost.

Of course many of us also use other tunings, low bass G, open D, etc. Usually if you are at all familiar with the tune and its customary setting you'll have some idea of the way it is usually played and what tuning to expect in the tabs. Open D is a tuning that many dobroists go to as an alternate.  And it is a favoriteof Weissenborn players too.

If you are just starting out, then you have to look at the tabs I would think.

I should also add that if you are looking for open D tuning you can still look at the open G tabs.  The intervals of the 4th-5th-6th strings in the open G tuning are the same as the  3rd-4th-5th strings in open D.  That's where the melody will sit in many tunes. So you just move the melody down one string in D and you're off to the races.

Standard question for new members here: Gyurme, are you referring to also playing "upright" resonator guitar, or lap style only i.e. dobro, weissenborn, etc.? You did mention "dobro" in your post, but you also included DADGAD, and it's pretty rare that folks play that tuning lap style.

Unlike Reso-Nation.org or the "Steel Without Pedals" section of the Steel Guitar Forum which are all about lap style playing, this site serves both players of upright guitars and lap style.

Hi Mark and Dennis- I was referring to anything that you lay across your lap that has strings!big  yes, as a new guy to this forum I thought if all the tabs had sections they were placed in it may help- but as you say just look at the tabs and do some homework.

While I'm here, would you know Greg McKennas website? Thanks.

The last URL I remember for Gregg McKenna was this. mckennaresonatorguitars.com/

It is defunct as you will see.  He does have a member page here as well:

resohangout.com/my/Gregg%20McKenna

He has not checked in around here in some time either.  I I do think he stopped building a while back.  Don't know if he got back into it. 'd bet someone else here knows what's what with him.
