I'm a dobro rookie, but I'm a typical guy. Therefore, I'm curious to see what happens when I unscrew the cover plate and disassemble the inside of my Regal. Are there any pitfalls?
I should say that I'm mechanically inclined, and I've been doing my own banjo set-ups for 20+ years. My goal is to be able to do my own dobro setups one day. Is there a good dobro set-up guide?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks,
John

Get Paul Beard's Dobro setup and maintainence DVD for starters. It's very informative and should be in your dobro collection of instructional materials.

I can tell you it's a lot easier to clean up the new resos. The old prewars had cones that were usually glued in along with a couple of small nails to keep the cones from moving.

jwstahl, I second MitchC's recommendation. I have the Beard setup dvd and after watching it one time went to work on mine. So now I know what the inside of mine looks like. Thanks to Mr. Beard's excellent instruction, I was able to confidently take apart and put things back together without any hitches. Actually discovered in the process that the bridge on the bass side had separated from the ebony top, so I glued it back to what it should be. Now all the dustballs are out and the dobro is clean for the time being.
Any day is a good day to play music, and today is a good day.

Thanks, Guys.
Mitch, I promise I'll leave the Beard R alone until I'm competent.

John, don't be hesitant... open her up and give her a good cleaning when she arrives. Seriously, get the Beard DVD, it's worth having.
