How much better is a tut23 or beard cone ?? My son is the player I am just a hobby luthier thats really busy. We are hurthing for set up people in my area and Im not too bad. Putting a Beard Cone and Spider is well worth the money if you're going to keep the dobro, the difference in sound should be significant. I'm not familiar with Galveston however you should check to see if it has a metric cone or a standard size, on BC-1 is standard and BC-10 is the metric size, the spiders are the same, you can use a BC-1 however you would have to trim it down very slightly if your dobro was routed for the smaller size (metric) cone.

The BC-1 is a cone for spider bridge.
The BC-10.5 is a cone for biscuit bridge guitars.
There is no BC-10.

You're right no BC-10, I was going by quarterman calling theirs the QC-10, Beard has it listed as Import 10 1/2 inch cone.

The import cone typically are ripped out of import guitars that come here for setups. Good for experimentation.

Howard,
Does Beard make a smaller cone for the imports or do you need to trim down a BC-1? I was buying quarterman QC-10's to do upgrades on imports however, I've also cut down the QC-1's and since I've become a Beard fanatic I'll start buying BC-1's and trimming them if you don't have a smaller cone for the imports.

I did all this work on a Danville dobro about a year ago. The beard cone drops right in perfectly. You need the spider and the bridge inserts. While you're doing this you might as well get a bone nut from Resophonic Outfitters as well. You might also order Paul Beard's video and that should get you off on the right foot. Make sure you get all the glue off of the cone ledge and provide a nice smooth surface for the cone to rest on.
As an aside mine still didn't sound as good as a Gold Tone. You might want to give Howard at Resophonic Outfitters a call and see if he has any Blemished Gold Tones for sale. There a nice reduction from the standard pricing and they'll probably sound better than the hot rodded Galveston. Just a thought.
