What would they compare to in regards to sound, tone and playability? Would they be considered low end, middle of the road or near high end?
I've ran across a mid 70's model that is in excellent and all original condition but don't have opportunity to give it a try. I'm trying to determine if it would be possibly much different or better than my PBGT solid mahogany.....not that there's anything wrong with my current reso.
It may just be a GAS thing....
All thoughts appreciated.........

I have a 1974 and really like the sound of it. It is definately different than my Meredith. Not as loud and note clarity not as good but I still like the sound of it. I would be careful of who and what type of setup you might do to it. I simply took mine apart and cleaned, checked cone, and spider level. Strings and cone tension are the only things I have tweaked. Since it is a laminate and maple bridge I dont know how it would compare to your PBGT but I would think you should hear some difference. The only way would be to A-B them for sure. I was able to get a return gaurantee on mine if I was'nt satisfied, just pay the return shipping. Needless to say I kept it and am very satisfied with sound. I play it through the same sound system as the Meredith and tweak here and there for live perfomance. Mainly just a volume change as I dont want to modify the orignal sound any. My 74 is a little beat up and finish checked but she still sounds good to my ear. I got rid of a PBGT Deluxe to buy the Dobro and feel I made a good choice. The GT was also a good reso but sounded a little too modern and did'nt compare to the Meredith. Hope this helps some. Pickngrin, D.
