Due to the developing ground swell interest in the lap steel and since ithe instrument holds a close blood relationship to the reso, maybe its time to make it part of the Hangout.
Seems to be enough current member interest to sustain life here and it may provide a strong urge for a whole host of new members to join.

Or maybe it's time to stick to the subject matter at hand? Post more meaningful topics about the resonator guitar?
Surely we haven't run out of topics? Based on the traffic on the reso related Facebook groups there seems to be plenty back and forth.

Check forum under groups. You will find Learning Lap Steel, numerous tabs and interested Lap Steel fans.

Howard, as usual you bring up some good points on our various forum discussions.
This thread request is simply a stated opinion on how this forum can add a category to be of service to people like me. I am not a devotee' of Facebook for various personal reasons nor do I frequent other reso pages. I do check Lap Steel Lunatics quite often for general information but not their Facebook. I also goggle SGF every once in awhile for other interesting topics.
I'm sure there are a few other members on this forum that may feel the same way.
I agree that the main thrust of this forum should remain being about the reso, but even Eric himself has included categories on this forum not totally related to the reso. As I previously stated, the lap steel is an extremely close first cousin to the reso and is increasingly becoming more popular every day with reso enthusiasts everywhere
From a purely business and information standpoint this request makes sense to me. Think about what added lap steel classified advertising might bring to Eric's bottom line and membership list.
This is only a suggestion...the ultimate decision to do it or not do it rests with Eric.
Sorry you disagree with this premise.

I'm going to throw in with Howard. I have nothing against lap steel nor any variant of such but every day I check the hangout to see if anything interesting in happening . I always look for things that will expand my Dobro horizons and inspire me .

My totally uncorroborated sense is that "traffic" is way down on this forum. Whether or not you choose Facebook is up to you, of course but, those groups, focusing exclusively on reso are quite vibrant, detailed, informative, etc.
Plenty of lap steel resources on line. I hear, you're "camped out" here. That's ok but, unless the forum finds a way to be more relevant you'll be shedding more subscribers.
I play lap steel...I know where to go for the best info. That forum already exists. It's not gonna be here.
That's about the sum total of my thoughts.

Wow Howard...I didn't think you were that negative about this forum.
Since your posts signify to me that you've become one of the most influencial and respected members here, these comments come as a complete surprise.
I happen to have a more positive outlook for this forum and others like it for providing a haven for those who seek the information and comradeship they provide.
As far as being "camped out" on this forum with my frequent threads and posts, I plead guilty. If my goal in trying to come up with varied topics to entice appeal, provide useful information and invite participation by members is also being "a camp' out on this forum, I plead guilty. And if this effort does anything to help reverse the trend of this being a dying forum like you describe, then I plead guilty again.
Thanks for your critique, it is genuinely appreciated.

BTW Howard... I think the possibility of adding the category I suggested just might make The Reso Hangout, "more relevant".
hlpdobro - Posted - 08/03/2019: 18:26:43
I don't construe my comments as either positive or negative. I don't live here and contribute when I feel I have something useful to say.
I'm also a lousy typist, to the point and try hard not to repeat myself.
So, I won't.
cheers,

Ok . Reso Purist . I can respect purist . I'll refrain from discussing electricity here , and delete myself from a few minutes ago .
Alas , I'm new enough to here and Reso to not have an historical comparison on activity levels .
The " other " Reso forum I'm aware of is defecto dead , are there others of which I'm not aware yet ?
The big Pedal forum that charges money has a non-pedal sub section . Are there any Lap specific forums of which I'm not aware yet ?

I play both, and love talking about both. I have consciously made an effort to stay more resonator focused here though but i'm not opposed to a sub section on lap steel at all. I also play regular guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmonica, lol.
And non- reso acoustic steel!

I would welcome a lap steel section. It may even increase traffic!

Besides my reso I have a couple of Weiss copies and a herd of lap steels.
I frequent SGF often but it's main purpose is pedal steel.
I am in here a lot but don't post much mainly because I don't know much.
Weisseborn Info Exchange seems to be dead.
I check out Lapsteel Lunatics a lot but won't sign in to Facebook.
I can't think of any other lap steel site that's active.
I just mainly read a lot trying to learn and post occassionally.
I think a lap steel section in here would be nice and I think it would be fairly active.
However this is a site dedicated to reso's so I'm not sure it would be appropriate.
Then again we have a Weissenborn group in here also, which is not very active.
Hey, I'm just an old guy fiddling with weird pieces of wood in his lap.
Just give me a guitar and a bit of rum and I won't bother you for days.
DBChimer - Posted - 08/04/2019: 09:14:41
Hey Gas...don't sell yourself short. I'm an 'ole guy too. I enjoy what you have to say in your posted thoughts, comments and opinions. Maybe you outta' consider posting more.
BTW...I share your affinity for imbibing a jigger or two of rum during reflection time after a good practice session. Not much into rum, but I do enjoy a jigger or two of good 'ole Kentucky bourbon to unwind.

This is a great place just the way it is. Thank you Howard for providing a site for the resonator guitar. Your knowledge and devotion to the resonator guitar is inspirational to all of us.

You can thank Eric. I'm just an occasional contributor. My old forum, an email list actually (resoguit-l) hosted on Google, is only occasionally active.
It used to be quite the place until (first) web based forums and now FB groups took over and are the largest sources of info..the good & the bad.

This link already gets as much traffic as the current site. Besides Reso and Various Electric Things Hangout doesn't scan.
