How many of you own a Wessie type guitar ? What brand, how do you tune it ? What strings / gauges etc. ?
I've been learning Andy Hall's last tune on his most recent CD... he plays a Weissenborn style guitar tuned to open "Eb" and it sounds fantastic ! Just wondering what your experience is with the Weissenborn style guitars ?
I friend has a nice Bear Creek MK that he lets me plunk on now and then...really great tone ! I like it !

Lazy River Weiss, EJ42 strings, D-tuning, and a McIntyre feather pickup. I love it, Rance is a good guy, reasonable price, and it sounds great. Pickngrin, D.

I'm another very satisfied Lazy River owner. I use J-42s and keep mine in D tuning. IMHO, Rance's prices haven't yet caught up to his quality. I think his waiting list is growing, though.
I've read both good and not so good things about the Bear Creeks. Never played one myself, though. I agree that Andy's sounds great, as does Billy Cardines, which I've heard him play live.
Brad's Page of Steel has links for many of the various weissenborn makers, and there have been lots of discussions of weissies over on Reso-nation as well as on the Guitar Seminars, Jerry Douglas, and Steel Guitar forums. You might want to do a bit of searching "in the archives."
