Hi! I am a novice dobro player and looking for a decent guitar. Been looking at a Crafters of Tennessee Tut Taylor in the 1500 range, is this a decent guitar for that price? Any advice?

This company is not in existence but I own TTT # 108 that Mark Taylor built for me in 2012. It is a very well built reso and mine is mahogany with a custom spun cone... you can read my review of it on my home page. Very much recommended ..

Ah, yes! The vanishing musical instrument company -- Crafters of Tennessee.

There are a passel of better than decent squarenecks on this website for under a thousand dollars. There are three Gold Tone Paul Beards. A cherry beauty and a walnut both handmade by Zach Hoyt. I would give all of those a second glance.

One of my students bought one with mahogany back and sides and fancy fingerboard inlays for that price a couple of years back. It's a good instrument.
Be advised that the company is no longer in business, and it is not advisable to send any Crafter of Tennessee or any other Mark Taylor instrument back to the maker for repairs or any other reason.

They are nice guitars with a more traditional sound. If you watch Ebay and Reverb and music store websites you can buy one for less than $1500. I saw a like new one for $1000 several weeks ago, but it has been sold.
