911 dispatcher retired - Posted - 03/24/2021:  22:24:30

Has anyone ever heard of a Pyle resonator guitar. I saw an ad on amazon for one with extra strings, gig bag, tuner and is acoustic electric for $242, I have not heard of that brand before and was wanting some insight on whether this is a good buy or not.

Pyle is an importer of mostly electronics and audio gear. They have been around for most of my life, and I ain't no spring chicken. They seem to target the low price end of the market segments where they provide products.  Once in a while they do sell something that represents decent value.  I have a few of their products - stands, cables, stage snake, mics (perfect throw-aways for kids who want to do a "mic drop"), etc.

Anyway, there is a farmer's market in the region where I live that has a stall that sells a lot of Pyle products including the resos. At one time, maybe ten years ago now, they appeared to be the same guitar as the Johnson branded product. Those were a fair starter instrument, a "let's see if I can play this thing" kind of product. The quality seemed to go downward from there. I have not been back to see what they sell in a few years. So I can't actually say what they may be like now. But be assured, it's as inexpensive as you can probably find.

Hope that helps.

A family member bought a round neck Pyle Reso guitar on Amazon several years ago. To be honest, it was quite terrible. It got returned. Even the Gretsch on Amazon is a significant step up in build quality.

Thank you and Keep up the important work.

In 1979 I left being an EMT and went to work for the local police department as a dispatcher for fire and police for all of the county. In 1981 I went to patrol division and left in 1987 and started factory work for 23 years. I have been 911 dispatching now for 11 1/2 years and have been a supervisor for 9 1/2 years. I am planning on retiring in 2022.

Good for you! I did about 8 years in dispatch, then 30 years mostly on the street, retiring as Sgt. in 2011. Glad I got out when I did, things seem worse now. I enjoyed my time in dispatch.
