Has anyone tried Dazzo pickups? They promise a more '3D' tone than standard piezo type pickups. A lot of guitar players on the Acoustic Guitar Forum are raving about them being much more natural sounding than others ( K&K, etc). I'm not trying to push the fishman setup aside ( please no flood of responses about how Fishman is the best)...but - if these are truly more natural, and no piezo quack - then they could negate the need for the Aura pedal, and free you up to use any interface or pedal you want. I'm tempted to try them, but so far have not found any soundclips of a reso installation.

No experience here - but seeing as how the pickup sensors are mounted to the spider, I am highly skeptical regarding the sound produced. It would be great if they provided accurate sound, then you can use any bridge insert you like rather than being "married" to the Fishman Nashville insert.
Makes sense being mounted inside the of a flattop, similar to a K & K - but attached to the aluminum spider on a dobro?
For the curious:

I'd be curious to hear one attached to a spider bridged reso. They sound great simply plugged directly into a PA when mounted on a quality acoustic guitar. These fellows who made the video have a signal chain put together that allows you to hear how the pickup sounds without the addition of preamp enhancements. Mounting for good tone seem to be all about location, location, location. There may be some trial and error with gluing the thing in to the best spot.

Hmm? The Bose S1 has the mystical Bose ToneMatch preamp system on the first two channels with specific settings for acoustic guitar. It isn't your garden variety powered party speaker.
But of course Bose, being the forthright and honest audio company that they are, does not disclose what functions ToneMatch may encompass. I would guess they do impedence matching, eq and compression and perhaps some additional Bose psycho-acoustic processing. But that's just a guess because the Bose documentation tells the consumer nothing.
I'm sitting with the skeptics. At least for now.

Several years ago, when Barcus-Berry pickups were novel, I used one on an Ovation Balladeer, which had nylon strings. This pickup was a transducer that was encased in something resembling rosewood, that was attached to one end of the bridge. The "preamp" that Barcus-Berry sold was evidently an impedance matching device. I used one to run the guitar through the PA. It had a very good, authentic sound.
This said, not all piezo pickups are equal. And the wiring can fool you if you aren't careful.

Ahhh, glad you pointed that out, Dennis. In that demonstration video I was impressed and surprised at the quality of the tone. I didn't know the features of that powered speaker. The fellows led me to believe this was the the sound that would be heard plugging directly into a mixing consoles input for amplification in a PA.

My experience with Bose S-1 is that it is close to what you would get in A regular PA, but nicely tailored for either guitar or voice. My way of saying that the pickup probably is VERY good. I use a K & K pickup in my Martin and it is very nice with the S-1, but what I heard in the video sounds better.
