I do not play dobro but would like to learn. I was thinking about buying a Gold Tone Paul Beard PBS-M (based on somebody's recommendation) but I recently was offered a chance to buy a Short Mountain Square Neck Resonator (solid maple) for roughly the same price. I accessed the Short Mountain website on line and it looks like they make solid instruments.) Would the Short Mountain be the better deal over the Gold Tone PBS-M? Thanks for your help.

It looks legitimate. I would take a chance on the Short Mountain guitar.
I have been very fortunate with small makers.

I've owned a Short Mountain Patriot guitar for several years now and I couldn't be happier with it. It's beautifully made from very high quality materials and looks & sounds great.

I have only seen Short Mountain resonators in pictures, but I've come across a number of positive reviews like the one above from Dennis.
He also makes some beautiful flattops.
If the price is that good - it's a no brainer - get the Short Mountain before it's gone.

I've added a picture to my album that I saved from Short Mountain's old web site. I've built a variety of acoustic and electric lap steels myself and IMHO the build quality doesn't get any better than what Doug Spencer does.

Thanks to you guys for the advice. I bought it. As I pointed out to the seller, this might be the very instrument I need to propel myself to musical stardom.
