Hello fellow players.
Does anyone know if there are programs that allow a person
to delete a guitar track from the tune & then load in another track of my own choosing?
I have spent about 3 hours trying different programs but it is very complicated & time consuming.
It would be much easier if I knew whether it is even possible before spending hours
trying to find something that might not exist.

Unless you have the original stems from the master recording, it's going to be almost impossible to isolate a guitar track and replace it with another. You could record an additional track over the other one, but there will always be some of the original track bleeding through.

Look back at the thread you started last November. Yes, there have been several software titles that do what you want. Many have passed from the marketplace. Look for re-mixing, sampling and karaoke software. Everybody seems to be able to steal music tracks these days.

Roland still offers some version of R-Mix, which at one time was packaged as a DAW plug-in back when Roland partnered with Cakewalk. There was a stand alone version as well. Take a look here.

And Moises, which I pointed to last November is apparently still around. I have not used it.

There are likely other products as evidenced by the steady rate with which hip hop producers keep stealing beats and other tracks from artists who took the time to write and record original material.

And don't overlook programs like Band In A Box. It's not a music minus one product but it will let you do a lot of things. It will create full real band arrangements from just typing out chords and picking the style. And It will let you import an existing sound file that you can play and record with.

I have had my head in the sand for the last couple of years. It is likely that there are a dozen titles out there that will do what you want to do.

I guess I never thought of it as "stealing" It seems to me that if I buy the music I can do whatever I want with it.

If that was true, copyrights would be worthless. For instance, you can't duplicate and give away/sell/distribute copyrighted material owned by others.

It probably leaves it where it's always been - if someone creates tab for a musical piece, and it's shared on a private forum among a fairly small number of players, copyright owners might look the other way and in most cases probably have no idea it even exists.

Compare this to a commercial publication like the tab book from the Grammy winning Great Dobro Sessions in the mid nineties.

The late Stacy Phillips with some help from Curtis Burch created tab for all the tracks on the album excepting one: the late Gene Wooten's version of Day Tripper by The Beatles. Michael Jackson purchased the rights to Beatles songs in the mind 1980s and I guess Jackson's lawyers decided for whatever reason that tabbing out Day Tripper was a no-go for the book. 

I have no idea how many copies of the Sessions tab book sold, but apparently Jackson's people were not going to have any of it. Stacy was pretty ticked off about it. Too bad it couldn't be worked out for inclusion in the book. Gene's Day Tripper is one of my favorite tracks on the album.
