I see Robs Reso Room is having a sale, 30% off a 1 year subscription. How come they never have a sale on the 3 month sub so you could try it out first. Not everyone can afford a 1 year sub, even with the discount it’s still way to much for me by the time I pay the dollar difference. Good deal for those with big pockets though.

Why don't they offer a promotion for a 90 day trial? I guess you'd  have to ask Rob and the Big Music Tent people.

 I was able to sign up a year ago on Jan. 27 for 50% off for a year or $I50. 

Flr 2022 things are apparently going well enough that they don't feel the need for a 50% discount to attract new members. 

My "reenlistment" happened automatically last week for the full $300. Before the holidays I was wondering if I should keep it going for this year. I flat spaced it out last week and missed the cutoff so I'm back in the group for another year. 

The reality is even at $150 last year I didn't spend enough  time on there so this year I'm going to try to seriously pick up the pace. 

It really is an outstanding site, and it's one of those deals where once you understand the ins and outs of the content, what you get out of it is commensurate with what  you put into it.

I agree have a promotion on the 3 month. I was thinking about trying it with the one month to see if I like it. But once you do that you can’t take advantage of any discounts because they only apply to new members. So it’s either try it for a month and pay full price if you like it. Or sub for a year and hope it’s for you or there goes your $350.00 I’ve been wanting to try it but there’s no good deal for anyone living outside the USA. Think I will just stick to Troy cause he has sales all the time and is a little more reasonable with pricing. If it had of been 30% off on the 3 month I would already be signed up. But can't take a chance on a year to start because I might not like the platform.

Wait a minute - we don't get any better of a deal down here south of the Canadian border except for the part about the dollar exchange value is higher than the Canadian dollar. 

I'm a hack pedal steel player and may never rise above that status and I have thought about enrolling in Paul Franklin's year long course he designed a couple years ago. Guys on The Steel Guitar Forum rave about how it has dramatically improved their playing. 

But it's $500 a year and that's a tough row to hoe. One has to be seriously committed. 

I will get more serious about Rob's Reso Room this year because  I'm out 300 bucks instead  of $150. 

If you were to take the plunge for a year with the 30% off and you stay on top of it, I can almost guarantee you that a year from now you will post here that it was worth it. 

Troy does a great job overall - I think his greatest strength is that he has an exceptional ability to teach. The only thing for me is that I've gotten a little frustrated with his videos at times because he sometimes takes too long to explain some things  like making sure the "slowest person in the room" doesn't get left behind. 

What I like about Rob, and Mike Witcher is another one - they spend quite a bit of time on clean and proper technique.

For most of us I think the money we spend on making music is necessary but it's discretionary spending; it's money that's left after the expenses of life are paid. $150.00 to join a site, that's a lot of strings, picks, slides, etc. Were I a professional, bringing home a nice wad of money I would prolly spend it on a site (I imagine) like "Robs"

I support a site for my particular brand/model motorcycle; I use the maintenance and advice side of the site A LOT and it's the best $12.00 a year I could spend! The money I save and the availability to out of production parts is nice, it allows me to buy more parts to further upgrade my Venture Royale. I'm just learning about playing a resonator, I'm a long time guitar player and I play for my own enjoyment and wife's annoyance and if I ever play in front of someone besides her and the dogs it'll be family; maybe close friends. Right now Rob's site is most likely beyond my ability, maybe someday after I grow up...

Were I just starting out, or had been playing for a year or two, I would go for the Jerry Douglas course that came out last year from Modern Music Masters, which is the company doing the Paul Franklin pedal steel course. 

Jerry's program is aimed at the beginner but he points out that veterans will benefit as well to review basics and clean up bad habits. But there is only so much money, and only 24 hours per day, so I can't imagine subscribing to both Rob and Jerry. On the Douglas course site it reads there are 80+ lessons that you get to keep which is a nice feature - apparently they don't go away after a period of time.

Jerry's course isn't chump change either at $249, but in reviewing the site it looks like a winner to me.

There will eventually be an advanced Douglas course and I'm pretty sure that will be "an adult portion."

I checked Jerry’s course and thought it was a little steep also. But now that you mention about being able to keep all the lessons, maybe that’s why. Because you basically have the rest of your life to learn. I may have to visit that site again, something to think about anyway. I’m a slow learner so I know I couldn’t afford the best part of $400 a year for Robs site. But I still might get it for a month just to watch all the videos, I’m sure that would be worth the $50 bucks.

Did anyone read the entire terms for the Jerry Douglas site? I did and I wrote to them and told them my opinion. That site's terms seems to hold every member of the site liable for anything that happens anywhere on or off the planet and the member has to pay for it or lose access for this life and the after life. I told them I wasn't joining because I thought their terms went too far. There are plenty of other lesson sites out there that cost more (I imagine) and cost less (I know) than the Douglas site. Now I saw Jerry at the first Crossroads concert in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in '06. He's a world class master. I think he's one of the best but his terms are too much for me. The site's response was that 4,000 members have no problem with the terms. Well they won't exceed 4,000 AND 1 if I'm to be the ONE. No disrespect intended I think their terms just go too far, I mean what are they worried about? I get they want to protect their copyrights everybody does. It's just page after page...

Well, I have been a do it yourself guy all my life. I taught myself guitar, residential electric, carpentry, plumbing, glass work, I am a retired marine painter, vehicle painter, furniture (re) finisher, I do all I can on my own. Only now am I hiring stuff done. I spent 17 of my 20 year career in the military in vehicle maintenance, 3 in aircraft maintenance, and painted for the military as a civilian for 18 years. So I'm in the habit of doing things myself.

They paid me twice a month on the 1st and the 15th. That way they could say we got X a month but they paid us on the 1st and the 15th screwing us out of a couple of pay days the rest of the world got by getting paying every 10 working days. The military was very good for/to me. Some of the guys I ran around with went to jail, didn't live past 30, I got through to enjoy retirement.

I went to Jerry's teaching site and skimmed the terms and conditions and yeah - that is some major verbiage. 

I don't know that it's any lengthier than when I purchase a new iPhone every 3-4 years and at the bottom of all that small black print on the screen there's the box you click on to agree to "terms and conditions." I do an even quicker skim job on the iPhone thing than I did today on the Modern Music Masters page, and I was actually paying for the phone. 

Perhaps it stands out more on this MMM site because this is Jerry we're talking about -  a good guy and one of the bros, as opposed  to some corporate "monolith."

If you don't care for it, then you just don't care for it. 

It doesn't bother me, and I get a feeling for all the folks who have signed up who are  your average straight shooters and not trying to take advantage of the content for some sort of personal gain - I suppose there could be a few bad apples out there - after they  agree to the terms and conditions and submit their credit card  I would surmise it's likely  the last time most of them ever think about that stuff. 

I went to Rob's and reviewed that version and it's more compact and less "lawyerese," but there is still a pretty good portion. 

And it's the first time I've even given it a thought since I signed up in January  2020.
