For those who may have read the thread on the building/set up etc sub forum, the Lebeda I bought showed up today. I must say it was a surprise. Billed as used , it appears brand new. Still had the blank warranty papers in the case. The tone and playability are amazing for what I paid for it. I can safely say it sounds better than my Appy, Adams, and Redline that I owned before I had to pack it in due to injury. Once I get some more time on it I will provide a more in depth review, but the initial impression is "wow"!

My main guitar for years is a Clinesmith, but prior to meeting Todd in Santa Rosa in 2003 at the sadly no longer Healdsburg Guitar Festival, I was pretty close to buying a Lebeda.
There was a really nice one at a music store in Arcata in Humboldt County. I used to make the exhausting drive every other week for my sales job, and one time in visiting this store I test drove the Lebeda. Sidebar: The guy also had a non-ported Wolfe as part of his personal stash that he let me play that had originally belonged to Phil Leadbetter. Phil wanted to try and reunite with the Wolfe, and I don't recall the details, but at one point I contacted Phil, and the guitar eventually made its way back to Tennessee.
I would have bought the Lebeda but that fall I got a really nice bonus check and decided to parlay a portion of it into ordering a guitar from Clinesmith, which was way more expensive than the Lebeda, which new was as I recall $1400-$1500.
But every so often I still think about that Lebeda that I didn't grab.

I got a great deal on a Lebeda that a friend of mine had purchased then never really tried out. It still had/has the tag on it. He lumped in a 1973 Gibson RB 250 and a walnut "dojo" with double neck cutaways. Sometimes, people just feel like thinning out the herd. I've not had that urge yet and the guitar bulge is beginning to show.

I kinda thought I ought to update my impression of the Lebeda I bought a while back. I continue to be impressed with this square neck. As I understand, Jiri Lebeda spins his own cones and makes his own spiders. I once read that was a disadvantage when compared to a Goldtone PBS. I've only played one of those and that was a while back, but I would disagree with that evaluation. In fact this particular "basic" model is superior in my estimation to my RK Leadbetter as well as my Appy (sorry Delbert) and the Appy was all solid and had a Legend cone and #14 Spider. Now, realize my ear is not all that good and I haven't heard the others of a while. My only issue with the Lebeda is that the string height isn't very high so the only capo that really works with it is a Sheerhorn Flux (that was in the case when the Lebeda arrived and it would be cool if the string spacing was maybe a tad bit wider (it is wider than the Leadbetter which is why I moved on). All in all I am very happy with this dobro!!!
