Let me shed some light on the new Beard, Radio Standard line, at least as it pertains to square necks. Here's an overview:

First, the Deco squares aren't going away completely. Like many older models, two of the squarenecks, the D 37 & 57 will be available as custom builds, albeit with a price increase.

So..Why the change?

Simply put, market demand and parts cost. Hard to believe the Deco's been around for more than 5 years. Physically, external dimensions the same as Mike's s/n 401 Regal built, the Deco's are “skinny” guitars, each model available in a single configuration.

The imported parts used were approaching the cost of USA parts. Requests were coming in for custom variations and the market was shifting elsewhere.

So, where does the line fit? “Sorta” between the Deco on one side and The Mahogany R and Vintage R on the other, with the addition of a “real” E body.

Unlike the Deco, the RS's will be dimentionally equivalent to the Beard R & E counterparts. Finland Birch laminate, ebony fretboards, Beard hardware and Mini Gotoh (my personal favorite) tuning machines. Like the Deco and the Beard E they will be open body construction. No soundwell. Not baffled. Five (?) standard finishes. Legend cone and all of the standard Beard hardware.

We/they are sorta behind in a new (spectacular) website launch with all of the photos and specs you could ever want. The current photos are temporary and will be replaced.

The RS line was offered up to dealers approx 6 months ago and the orders have exceeded expectation, to say the least.

What else? The mahogany R is staying as far as I know. The Vintage R will be replaced by the Radio Standard R. It made no sense to keep them both and the market was asking for an open body variant, similar to the Beard “RF” (a custom config).

Not so much a mystery. The marketing hasn't caught up with the building yet!

So..I think that's the big picture.
