anyone have some tabs for songs using alternate thumb patterns primarily in D tuning?

Off the top of my head I don't - would have to look since I have a ton of stuff.

But we need to narrow this down - are you looking for lap style, or is it conventional guitar style either bottleneck slide and/or fretted?

Troy Benningmeyer has a tab lesson on thumb playing. On youtube one of the songs is.... Going down the road feeling bad.... Only its for the G tuning... Hope this helps Lee

Matt hasn't been back to clarify after starting the thread last Sunday, but I'm guessing he's looking for tab for conventional Reso guitar in Open D, not lap style since alternating thumb patterns are common in "upright" guitar. But we won't know until he checks in.

Newbie members here sometimes leave out those details.

If Matt is looking for lap/square neck tab. I second Lee's recommend for lessons with Troy Brenningmeyer.

Here is one he has for Open D. He uses a lap steel on this one but like he says, can be used on dobro or weissenborn.

Also this one, he uses a square neck reso for the lesson.

But like Mark says, type of guitar, unknown for now.

Troy’s lessons look to be good resources for building the technique.

I learned in a similar manner from Pete Grant during my time in NorCal.

IMO, once the alt bass picking skill is developed, even newer players can begin to work out arrangements for chosen tunes on their own. It becomes a matter of picking the right key such that the combination of open strings and barred strings provide the right melody notes. In Open D tuning, the songs may or may not land in the key of D. Noodling often yields good results.

This also assumes lap style.

sorry folks - had to go fishing for a few days. I have weissenborn (built in 1923!!!) so ask is for lap style reso vs roundneck. I am getting more comfortable with alternate thumbs but not versed enough to take a song and build it on my own. still reliant on tabs until i get more songs under my belt. Thanks for suggestions. peace and health to you all
