I met Tom Swatzell and shared a stage with him. He grew up in Alabama I think and when he visited his family he would come to the Signal Mtn Opry in TN. I had gotten my first dobro on a Wednesday, learned one song and went to the opry Friday night. And in walks this tall cowboy I had never seen before. That cowboy was Tom. He was very nice to me and let me check out his 2 metal body dobros.
That was in 1988 or '89. The dobro was the only bluegrass instrument I didn’t own and I have played mostly dobro since I got it. I now play an Appalachian dobro.
