HI,
I have a 2009 Triolian metal body that was sold to me by a Reso dealer as a Glossy finish prototype. I have reached out to National and havent heard back but I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of anything like that in the group. I want to have my facts together before I put it up on the Marketplace.
Thanks
Dave

A National authority I'm not, but I've never heard of a prototype guitar like this, and I'm having a hard time picturing what it would look like - some photos would be nice.
When I received a tour of National in San Luis Obispo around four years ago they showed me a few prototypes in the shop, but nothing like you're describing
As an aside, when you do get around to putting it up for sale you'll want to get the spelling correct for the guitar unless the version you are using is correct because it is a prototype not to be confused with actual production models.
It is spelled "Triolian."

Sorry for the misspelling. Photos attached

That's a cool looking guitar!
Does it have a serial number, or if it is a true prototype did they leave it off?
I'm trying to figure out what makes it a "prototype" aside from the finish. In comparing it to the production Triolian on the National site, I'm guessing the dimensions are the same, and it has the traditional "sieve" coverplate.

This looks like a Triolian walnut finish (painted) instrument. I'm not sure any contemporary Nationals are gloss finish unless they are custom or nickel plated. The Triolian has been for sale for a while (steel or wood) so if it is a true prototype you could confirm this with National, as was mentioned previously. This is a beautiful instrument. Son House would approve!

Yes it does have a serial number on the plate on the back of the headstock on the metal place attached. According to the information out there its a 2009. No special character marking it as a prototype. I did reach out to National and am waiting for them to let me know.

So as it turns out it is glossy from the factory. Not a prototype but at the request of the dealer.
