Have many of you tried these Scheerhorn guitars or know how they match up with PBS Special models? They make a Rob Ickes Signature model and seem like they would be good. I am interested in getting the best dobro possible but for less than a fortune.

I personally had difficulty deciding between the PBS Deluxe and the Rob Ickes. I found the Ickes to project much more sound, primarily due to being screenless, having an angled plexiglass partition directly below the screen holes (thus projecting the sound upward), and not having an internal baffle (the Ickes will have a series of dowel rods directly underneath the cone). Since I do not perform, volume is not a requirement. In the end, I chose the PBSD. It all boiled down to what my ears wanted to hear, and this is the best advice I can pass on to you. If I told you that I've had no second thoughts, I would not be telling you the truth. But since the little woman would not let me take them both home, I had to make a difficult decision. In all honesty, I've had less difficulty choosing a car.
I feel you cannot go wrong with either of your choices.
I wish you the best of luck in your decision making.

You're talking about a Wechter guitar, right? I have the 6510F (F-hole model rather than soundhole model) and I love it.

I have the 6510R and I'm really enjoying it. There was not much for me to test drive before I bought one. I did play a GT Beard maple something or another and it sounded good but I couldn't get past the hearts and flowers neck inlay, to me that belongs only on a banjo :-) I can say that the Maple Beard looks way better in person than in pictures on line. Then a few months after I bought the Wechter, my local store got in the regular GT Beard too and after playing it I was kind of happy I got the Wechter.
Thanks,
Tommy

One of the things I really like about the PBS Deluxe is the
Hearts and Flowers inlays. Strange isn't it.

Rob Anderlink has done a great job, comparing some resonator guitars, including some Scheerhorn and Gold Tone:

Do you like the tune "Grandfather's Clock"? I HATE it!
I've heard it about one hundred times, played by Rob on the differents guitars.
The sound of the Scheerhorn looks a little strange to my ears and then I've chosen the Gold Tone PBSD, I love his sound and it's a beautiful guitar .
Please, write slowly and articulate ... I''m French.

Well the 6510F must be good for people with the name
"Brad" cause like Brad Bechtel I also have one just like his.
I think for a entry level (beginer) squareneck reso you can't beat them.
Regards,
Good Luck
