Two Sheds - Posted - 08/16/2023: 07:13:50
Hello all, Jeff from Pennsylvania here. I recently bought my first reso. I am trying to get some information about it. It has a serial number on the back of the headstock (see photo) but I can't find anything anywhere mentioning a serial number on the back of the headstock.
Also as you can see it has a single coil pickup. I am guessing that someone added it. It is done extremely well. Anyone would think it came that way.
Anything anyone can tell me is much appreciated. Thanks

Jeff's photos are under "Media" on his home page. And Jeff, you may want to add your name under you "Two Sheds" screen name.
It does look like whoever put the pickup on there did a clean job but I'm guessing plugged in it sounds pretty much like an electric guitar.
Regarding modern Asian built Regal resonators, the serial number question comes up here every few months, so rather than start from scratch I've pasted a reply I posted in a thread from 2019:
"Regarding a lot of Asian-built instruments, players generally don't spend a lot of time cataloging these things. In the case of the modern iteration of Regal resonator guitars, it's not like the prewar Regal-built Dobros where there is a lot of historical interest.
So unless someone is a modern "Regalist" I'm not sure how much help you will find here.
Saga Music near San Francisco is the parent company of the modern Regal guitars, which if memory serves began production of the resonators in the 1980s. The same folks who bring us Kentucky mandolins, Blueridge guitars, Golden Gate thumbpicks and a bazillion other products, as well as being a national distributor for Quarterman cones.
When I have had a few questions in the past about some of their products the customer service team has been very helpful."
Here is the website with their contact information:

For what it's worth- my first dobro was a late 80s Regal import. It was too cool, and I got a lot of fun mileage out of it before eventually upgrading.

The magnetic pickup will work best with electric guitar strings.
Congrats on a cool first reso!
