I have been using a blue chip thumb pick for years now but the metal ring irritates my thumb after many hours of playing.
What other companies are making high end thumb picks these days? Ive noticed there are a million different companies making high end guitar picks and am curious if there are a bunch making high end thumb picks as well.

Don' know if it's high tech but by chance I bought a reso and it had this giant thumb pick
ended up it's a Golden Gate Extra Thick works really well big sound stays secure
and super comfortable

Ditto on a thick Golden Gate being the next best thing. There are some darn fancy metal thumbpicks made here by Scratchmo that stick on to your thumb very well also.

"Scratchmo" is Ron Landis, link below to his website.
I haven't tried his picks yet myself, and as far as the thumb goes BlueChip works great for me, I started using them 11 years ago and haven't looked back - but as we all know - everyone is different.
For example, I still have a couple of those thick white Golden Gates in the drawer, but they feel awkward to me now. And when I did use Golden Gate thumbpicks, I was a "clown barf" man.

ProPicks has a thumb pick that some like. The metal band is similar to a Blue Chip but slightly more comfortable. I still prefer the tone of the Blue Chip though.

I used those GG Extra Thick picks for years and like them, but in the past couple years have switched to GG GP-10 Large Ivoroid thumb picks. I like them being slightly thinner than the Extra Thick's. The general problem I have with most picks is that the strap going over the thumb weakens a long time before the picking surface wears out. The Extra Thick mostly solves this but not entirely. I buy the GP-10's by the dozen so its cheaper than the Extra Thick's by enough to make me change out the GP-10's and not worry much about it.

Blue Chip is my favorite and ProPick runs a close second. Both have metal bands that can easily be adjusted to custom fit. I find them both super comfortable no matter how long I have them on.

I like my very tight fitting Blue Chip for ‘digging in’ on dobro, but I prefer my Golden Gates for electric instruments (they are a more ‘relaxed’ fit, like my jeans;-)
