Was looking at the hipshot website to see what they charge for their doubleshot thing and found this line which made me chuckle: "Dobro is a registered trademark of Bank of America. Hipshot is not affiliated with Bank of America."
Anyone know if this is true? I thought Gibson owned it, but I guess they could have sold it. Epiphone still seems to make some resonators under the Dobro name.

Sounds like you may have gotten some AI/spell correction word salad. It is going around I hear.

I can't seem to find the disclaimer about Dobro and BofA on the Hipshot website. Please provide a direct link. Thanks.
Per the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, Trademarks Serial #73191924/Registration #1134094 and Serial #72394267/Registration #0950801 indicate "Gibson Brands, Inc Formerly Gibson Guitar Corp. CORPORATION DELAWARE 209 10th Ave S, Suite 460 Nashville TENNESSEE 37203" as the Last Listed Owner (like it or don't). Trademark and symbols have all been renewed within the last 3 years.
Per Wikipedia, in November 2018, Gibson Brands was acquired by a group of investors led by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. I can't find any explicit tie-in with BofA and KKR, though who knows in that rarified air of equity investments.
However, the Justia Trademark search indicates three owners after Gibson: SHAWMUT CAPITAL CORPORATION, FLEET CAPITAL CORPORATION, AS AGENT and BANK OF AMERICA, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION. So if this is accurate, I don't know why the USPTO doesn't reflect this.
This stuff makes my head hurt...

Welcome Ensconced - and how about giving us at least your first name and what state you live in? No one is going to have the energy to write out your screen name.
I started a thread about this on the Facebook Dobroholics page in February 2020 after visiting the Hipshot site.
If you "do Facebook" I will dig up the link to the thread and post here, let me know.

Ha, fair enough, and thanks for the welcome. Updated my profile. Yeah I'd enjoy reading the facebook thread if you have it.

We just got back into town after a two week road trip so I haven't been on here much.
At any rate, here is a link to the Facebook thread I started in February 2020. Might not be a whole lot more info than Dave provided above, a lot of tangents about the DoubleShot device, par for the course on social media and Internet forums.

Shouldn't we should all be playing/talking more dobro instead of participating in this?

Well, you just used the trademarked brand “dobro” in a generic sense.
Are you in violation of trademark laws?

Thanks. I was looking hat the Doubleshot page, not the roller nut page.

Mark: Thanks for the link. I do remember the discussion after all, but I was searching for it in R-H. Just another new and sad part of the "Convoluted History of the Dobro (R)" (R).
And, for those who sidetracked on the tech aspects of the Doubleshot system (much as I'm doing now), I was surprised to find so much reluctance to the roller nut. It's a drop in replacement on a Beard (though less simple on other guitars) and I believe it does more to maintain tuning than the tuners, as long as the tuners are solid (like Hipshot locking tuners, or the Waverlies on my Odyssey) and the strings are wound well. No tone loss with the roller nut in my observation.
Dobro (R) is a trademark of Bank of America. Reso Hangout is not affiliated with Bank of America.
"Convoluted History of the Dobro (R)" (R) is a trademark of Mark Eaton. All rights preserved. Used with persimmon.

Hi Michael. I am interested in everything Dobro. The history, the playing, the players, the songs, the techniques, the building, the repairing, the accessories, the recording, the arrangements. The Reso Hangout gives me a chance to learn and sometimes comment about all. As long as everyone behaves (and we do better than the Banjo Hangout, for sure!), it's fun no matter the topic.
