Hi all!

After a bit of advice and some opinions if possible. I'm based in UK so have few opportunities to try out higher end resos. I have a JD Blackbeard which I love but due to the baffle construction it can sound a little weak in some situations so I'm after something with a bit more punch, if that makes sense!!

There are three I've been looking at, all at similar price points but they are all at completely different ends of the country so I'm unable to realistically try all of them. The three are a fishook (mahogany), clinesmith (maple) or rayco (koa). If you had to choose, which would it be and why???

Really,

If your JD lacks "punch" I'd look for an issue. That guitar certainly has a rep for being one of the most aggressive sounding guitars on the market. It likes to be played HARD.

Maybe it's voice really isn't what you are looking for.

I don't know what your preferences are so I'm unwilling to suggest any guitar.

What Howard said. But if you’re convinced that another would be “hotter”, I’d go for the maple Clinesmith. And if I were in your shoes, I’d call Todd Clinesmith and talk to him about that particular guitar.

Thanks both, maybe I'll check setup first.

Describing voice is really subjective!

Everyone has a favorite.

Gene Wooten played a Harlow guitar on has last recordings. The Patty Loveless Mountain Sole album. I suspect he might have used his Cherry guitar like the one currently for sale. Or “Goldie” another Harlow which he played with the Osborn brothers and others.

At Resogat and other resonator gatherings there are hundreds of folks there. You could try literally everything made.

I liked all the Sheerhorns I have heard.
