UK reso player Chris Eaton has posted a good A/B comparison of a Beard Legend vs. Vesper cone in his National Scheerhorn maple.  Some of you may find his video interesting.  I know I did, as I have the Legend cone in the same Natl Scheerhorn as demonstrated in his video.

My ears favor the Legend due to the cutting highs/ high mids.  Both sound great though, as you'd expect from Beard cones.

I agree with you JC. Thanks for posting this!

Chris Eaton - "brother from another mother." Actually one of my nephews shares that name. No doubt we are related in some way if you go back in time. My ancestors on my father's side came over from England with the Pilgrims on The Mayflower.

I wish I didn't know which cone was which upon the first listen. Right off I think I prefer the Vesper, but not by much - at all.

Not sure if it's worth the additional 55 bucks over the standard Legend for slightly preferring the sound along with the cool dark color.

The question is how much longer will it still sound reasonably fresh in comparison to the standard Legend? These cones eventually sound "tired" depending on how often one plays and there is the oxidation factor with the regular Legend.

If it lasts twice as long, and the prices are $95 on the standard vs. $150 for the Vesper, then the Vesper is a reasonably good deal.

I liked the legend also. The Vesper sounded a little compressed to me.

What about the oxidation on the underside of the Vesper?

I rarely have seen oxidation on the underside of any quality cone. Typically a non-issue.

I don't understand. I see that much more stuff accumulates on the top side of the cone when it falls through the holes in the coverplate: dust, dirt, smoke, spills, etc., all of which loads the cone and must be regularly removed regardless of what sort of cone it is. But oxidation is a chemical change that occurs in the aluminum when it is exposed to the oxygen in the air, which is present on both sides of the cone.

The underside is not nearly exposed to airflow & the elements as the top side is. Much more difficult to get through rings/screens than the vast openings of the coverplate.
